I love it when Rock stars allow themselves to be subjected to ridicule over something they believe. To be fair to Prince, he's taken on the music industry in ways many artists were afraid to, and suffered for it too--he just never pulls a speech off quite like that though. I think I just fell in love with Bono tonight. Hes building a mystery for himself when he hides behind them glasses

He knew in his heart that his little poem was lame. Like Prince cares about the air and water. I doubt he gives the actual world a second thought.
I have 2 agree with this whole heartedly. I'm suprised that so many sober people an disagree. Under the Prince-spell, I suppose

I thought it was a wonderful speech
I can't understand orgers though...do we have to compare everything to Prince? They were 2 different people winning 2 different awards Get over it peeps!! If you will, so will I

Funny that Bono would have the best speech at the NAACP awards. Prince's speech was nice but afterwards I was like "WTF?"

Prince should have called it an early night.
What a waste o' space. If he was standing on top of the world, he might take a dump if he thought there'd be some personal gain in it.

i know im gonna get a ear full, but why do people get so pissy about bono, being self involved and self centered etc...
He probably is but he's never demonstrated it in my eyes... i mean if he was so egotistical, i think U2 would've broke up a long time ago... I am a Rail Road, Track Abandoned

That has been my point the whole time. I do not understand why the OP felt the need to compare Bono's speech to Prince's to begin with. And the subsequent attacks on both artists seem completely unwarranted. Sadly, there appear to be some miserable orgers who just lick to bicker without reason or logic. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Much love for Bono. He went up there, cooed at Tyra Banks, acknowledged his musical debt to Black culture, and spoke from the heart. Totally won over the crowd.
Prince, well, he drops a kindergarten poem about recylcing or something, and says "I hope I don't take too much of your time"--twice--to let us know just how humble he is. Pretentious with a capital purple 'P'. Bono and Prince both talk and sing about God, but I always find Bono much more believable.

Prince had a lesson 4 us: how 2 market yourself, in a cute way and without being 2 pushy. Like I was really in need of that. Bono, just went about his business in his usual charming way.

Sometimes I just think people do the comparisons and then dog Prince because they don't want to admit they are obsessed with him. Because you're right one speech had nothing to do with the other. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
