I walked in on that speech. Had to YouTube it to see the whole thing. That goes down in history. So many can talk and so many do but Bono lives every word. That's what gave it so much weight.

Bono was great. But he is Bono. And I love the fact that the Roots paid tribute to U2 but they butchered a great song. Prince's Food for Thought speech was cool but wierd too. Bono should help Prince with his next lifetime achievement award speech. Just some food for thought.(who says that anymore?)

Prince is a great artist. Bono is a great artist and a great man. I can't believe I'm dissing Prince here but sometimes I just wish he would come out of his shell already. But then again, he wouldn't be Prince.

And perhaps Bono needs go go back into his shell at times but who can blame him for not being pissed off at the fact that politicians and humans in general fail to do all they can to make the world a better place.

it was a great speech. i got goosebumps at the end. the message of universal love is always applicable in any situation.

you know what i think? i think some people can't be satisfied. bono was doing this stuff long before he was a superstar. now that he is a superstar, ratehr than forget what his passions are, he uses his superstar connections and superstar money to get the job done.

global policy shapers can't/won't do what bono gets done. i guess i miss the part where he acts like he thinks he's god and becomes self obsessed.

i liked both speeches. why does one have to be better than the other? Prince and Bono are two different individuals.

I've have said it in another thread but Bono is one of the most hypocritical people out there. He asks for world leaders to donate a percentage of tax raised to aid the third world as such...yet this man doesn't pay tax in his own country! U2 made $389m from the recent Vertigo tour. Its revenue was then funnelled through companies mostly registered in Ireland and structured to minimize taxes. U2 also moved its music publishing company to the Netherlands from Ireland in June 2006, six months before Ireland ended a tax exemption on musicians' royalty income. What a cock.

I was expecting a little more based on how people were raving about this thing. About 2 minutes of the 7 were interesting.

I love it when Rock stars allow themselves to be subjected to ridicule over something they believe. To be fair to Prince, he's taken on the music industry in ways many artists were afraid to, and suffered for it too--he just never pulls a speech off quite like that though.

I think I just fell in love with Bono tonight.

He really did preach. A few of us were really moved.

What I appreciate is that he is using his influence to bring attention to dire situations that are happening in the world. At least we are not hearing about how he goes on drunken rages, or in therapy every week, or slumming around with anything with legs. No he's not perfect, he has flaws like everybody else. The fact is he is using his celebrity for the betterment of others whether it's financially, or just using his voice to say hey we can and should all do something. Our involvement can be on a global level or in your own backyard, which he stated earlier that day in Oakland, CA. Globally AIDS is wiping out generations on a daily basis. At least Bono has a history of political and world-wide involvement, and not just popping up out of nowhere because it's a fad. At least he has the voice to lead the charge, regardless of his rock star status, and still remain genuine. Not everybody can do that, and I think that's calling, on the side.
