Akon WTF?

WHY????

Why is this person famous and top of the charts when he has the most ridiculous sounding voice and songs???

Is anyone brave enough to explain why they like him cuz I don't get it.

Well i cant explain his fame at all, to me, he seems like he will be this years Shaggy or Sean Paul, he will be on a bunch of peoples records, have a few hits of his own, and slowly fade like those 2 have. To me he's just the flava of the month type of artist, theres nothing to him, so he wont be here long.

I can't explain it, but I wonder the same thing. It's just a pile of crap. When will people see this? When we people start appreciating real music again?

I agree with all of the above. He's terrible and his songs are cheap.

Think about the leading "soul"/"R&B" men of the 60's, 70's and what the hell, 80's. James. Marvin. Stevie. Sly. Al. Donnie. Michael. Luther. Prince. All charismatic. All emblematic of their times.

We've got Akon now. I fear our new black singers may be no less emblematic of their times, but are less talented and "dimensional." Why? Your guess is as good as mine.

thanks for the comment. i thought it was just me.

i'm thinking Akon is some kind of gamble or odd success thing, meaning someone who just fits something hip, i just don't know what that something is. I mean his voice is comical, laughable, yet he's being taking seriously. I think he thinks he can actually sing. eek

Speaking of Akon, at times he does have some slammin' tracks to accompany his bullshit voice. Case in point "Ghetto" his best "song" to date.
Now who the fuck is T Pain? I've never seen or heard of him. What hook does he "sing"? eek

Yeah, T-Pain is the dude in R.Kelly's new song "I'm A Flirt".

I think Nate Dogg was the ONLY good hook male singer IMO. The rest are just intolerable.

But Akon is not a soul/rnb artist. And he produces his own songs too.

Too me he's an african version of Shaggy/Sean Paul. Maybe people are tired of the soul/rnb artists, they want something new.

My point is, that Akon is the closest thing to a soul/R&B artist there is. On the charts, anyway.

And I must disagree with you to the extent that there hasn't really been a true soul/r&b male crooner to make any real impact on the pop or r&b charts in a while (John Legend might qualify. for the most part, they are all reconstituted MCs, even the best of'em. Akon is nothing new.

T Pain is some rapper/singer like Akon that sings stupid bullshit songs too. He had some song about "trying to get to you and that booty". Wow how profound.

A decade ago, R Kelly was comparing women to Jeeps. And selling records.

That the graphic objectification of women in R&B music is an ongoing thing.
