MJ better solo or with his brothers?

As a live performer it isn't even worth comparing. Of course one can argue that Michael was perfection during Bad tour. I agree, The Bad Tour is one of his best tours and most definately his best solo tour but he already had started to give up a little too much of the spontanity he even had during the "ill-fated" Victory tour IMO. All in all Bad Tour was better than Victory simply for his energy and the heart he put into it but I think that the J5 tours, Destiny second leg and especially Triumph tour (with horn section and all) were his best tours ever. All of those were with his brothers. More interaction with the audience, more spontanity, better and more focused vocals, and lots of energy IMO. Except for the Bad tour his solo tours did not have much of his old trade marks. During MSG the difference was clear. Michael was off those nights but at least his performance with the brothers was enjoyable. The solo set was not even near his old standards and of course mostly lip synched.

Even though the quality is bad there's no denying how great Michael was compared to Dangerous or HiStory tours. The clips are from Destiny tour second leg.

I'll be there: http://www.youtube.com/wa..._bYLwQl6Ks (listen to his soulful a capella vocals in the end)
Enjoy yourself http://www.youtube.com/wa...ed&search= (again, great effortless ad libs)

DSTGE http://www.youtube.com/wa...ed&search= (not complete song)

I don't think his heart's been into it. Even during the Dangerous Tour, he put in effort. But after 1993, that changed. The whole incident had a impact that's hard to describe.

i think michael started havin a difficult time after he broke up with lisa marie, he also started havin problems with Sony in 97 when they released Blood on the Dancefloor, he didnt want that cd released and in fact only agreed to it after they gave him $13million advance and putting the five new songs on it, two of which would feature in his own "Ghosts" video which he funded by himself behind Sony's back.

I think the History Tour took a lot out of him and for a 40 year old man to perform like a 20 yr old for a total of 90 concerts throughout the world it must have really killed the passion.

I doubt if michael will ever tour again on large scale.

However, i must say that as a performer the Dangerous tour was his artist peak, witht the Bad tour being his energetic peak.

Even when the Jacksons were little they were better than MJ solo efforts. Ever watch the Going Back To Indian Concert or The Jacksons in Mexico 75, when MJ couldn't be more than 17. It was Just MJ, his brothers and real instruments on stage, no fire works, grab-crotching and NO Lip-synching. I envy the people who went to those concerts more than those who went to the Dangerous or History tours.

The biggest problem that Michael has without his brothers, is that he has become a gimmick of himself. The grab-crotching, one-glove and moonwalk have become what he is all about, thus any old Tom, Dick or Harry can do a parody of him.

He hasn't toured with them since 1984, so this is just a tricky way of comparing later era MJ with early MJ.

Maybe if we focus on the Jacksons reunion on 09/10/2001 at Madison Square Garden, we would have more objectivity.

And the difference between his performance with his brothers and his solo performance in 2001 was very evident. The solo part was the worst MJ I've ever seen.

Remember that scene in the Jacksons: American Dream mini-series when Jermaine is gonna leave the group and MJ talks about how he is used to looking over and seeing Jermaine there when they perform? smile

I think the reason he left in the first place was the feeling he was being pressured into it. Victory was their worst effort
