Great New Article on how American Idol is losing its appeal

Well im not an expert on AI, to be truthful i have never seen a show though i have seen clips a few times, and to this day with the 100's of albums the winners and losers have released i only own 1 and thats Katharine McPhee. But in reading this article i noticed that AI has never really discovered anyone, sure there are the big sellers like Underwood and Clarkson and others but they werent anything different than what was out there. Kelly Clarkson was nothing more than a more commercial Avril Lavigne and Carrie Underwood is huge because Shania Twain and Faith Hill havent had records out. But i guess AI is not really about bringing forth artists more than someone that is gonna sell right out the gate. AI is a show that has to have ratings and sales or else its useless. The article pointed out how this year is already been named the LAME year. And though AI still sells records, it still puzzles me how people vote, I mean Taylor Hicks over Katharine McPhee? And now the success of Daughtry everyone tacks his success to AI, but not really, i mean he really is just doing what Hinder and Nickelback are doing, Boring Ass Rock. It seems to me that AI at times seems to already know who will win going into the season, they kind of look at the Music scene and see whats selling and whos not doing a record right now, and that seems to be the winner. Recently i heard Ryan Searcrest say that AI could go on forever, i doubt that very highly, im sure very soon someone is going to leave that show. And also recently i heard Randy Jackson talking about the success of Carrie Underwood and kind of saying that AI was the reason, well i have to disagree since she is just a singer that fits that MOLD, she is Faith Hill and SHania Twains love child, same music, Pop labeled as Country. So like i said i only one AI artists album and thats Katharine Mcphee, mainly because she wrote some tracks and i like her voice, the album is better than i thought it would be, but her strength is ballads, to me her ballads on this album are the type that Mariah should be doing.

I wish that boring ass show would lose it's appeal. One damn "Star Search" was one too many. And then they reincarnate it and call it "American Idol".

I'd like to read this article. Got a link.

AI is what it is. The only reason it exists is to make money. There is an entertainment value, sure. Most of that exists during the auditions and towards the end when the best singers are up against each other. But most of it is watching a boring Karoke show. People will realize that they are not intrigued by the same ole same ole that this show provides. Survivor has now seen it's fan base bore out. It's only a matter of time before everyone tires of it. I am even hearing the same songs being sung now.

My honest take on the show without getting into who wins and what the aftermath of all that. But really, this show is making nothing but disposable pop garbage. Creating stars from nothing who really have nothing to add to the musical landscape (along with a miriad of others). ALso notice too that the albums put out, have cover songs, aren't very challenging nor are they in nice packages. And I highly doubt that the singers see any real money from their sales. AI seems like a huge waste and they aren't discovering any real talent.

Another thing that bothers me about shows like this, and Americas Next Top Model and all that is how they sometimes show backgrounds of the contestants and they are all so dramatic and they cry and talk of "struggle", are u kidding me, Struggle? you showed up and stood in a line. Wanna talk struggle come to NYC and gig in small small clubs and play a 1hour set and then after u pay your sound guy, you and your band split the 20 bucks you made, if even that much. (no im not in a band, just talking of experiences of friends in bands)

I enjoy American Idol. It's cheesy, mindless fun.

The winners reflect the current pop charts in America. If you're going to be terribly unique or original, you're not really suited for American Idol.

Haha, I got so annoyed on the last but one X-Factor here in the UK when the winner [the intolerable Shayne Ward] would harp on about his "struggle" because, boo hoo, he had to get a job to make ends meet instead of going to college to study music. So what? Most of my friends would love to spend their time studying and training to do what they love but work gets in the way. So what? And then a year later we find out that Andy, the runner-up had his mum die during the show's finals and he never told the public because he didn't want a sympathy vote.

The worst ones are the teary-eyed people talking about their dead grandparents and dedicating their lives to them. Seriously, your grandma was 90, she died. It's not a tragedy.

... or am I a cynical bitch? lol

Finally. I have never watched one full episode of this show and from what I‛ve seen, I have no interest in it. I hate how they showcase hopefuls who don‛t have a chance in hell just to get some laughs and ratings. There are better ways for me to waste my time.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I think Faith Hill released a record the same year (maybe a month or so apart) from when Carrie did. I could be wrong.
