Did you know that David Bowie provided handclaps on M's "Pop Muzik"?

Miscellaneous facts about M and "Pop Muzik"

  • M (Robin Scott) met Malcolm McLaren in the late '60s as well as Vivienne Westwood, who he would also collaborate with 10 years later.
  • He declined their offer to be involved in SEX, the Chelsea clothes shop which MacLaren and Westwood launched, preferring to make his career in music.
  • 'Pop Muzik,' which was written as his resume of 25 years of pop music and being in the music business since 1954.
  • The song went to #1 in the US (Nov. 3, 1979) and #2 in the UK.
  • M recorded the song in Paris and fellow Montreux resident and friend David Bowie did occasion handclaps in the tune and on the New York, London, Paris, Munich album that followed.
  • The female vocalist who puts the "Pop" in Pop Muzik was M's girlfriend of the time Brigit Vinchon, who both lived together in France during the recording of the single.
  • M (the band) at one time or another included Mark King, Wally Badarou and Phil Gould, who were later to become Level 42.
