One of my favorite jazz artists. Mingus Ah Um inaugurated me into the world of serious music listening and album collecting, and was my first real taste of jazz music outside of Miles and Coltrane. Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus, Mingus Dynasty are also among my favorite album length works in Jazz, and The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady changed my conception of how truly visceral and intense music can be while still being completely acoustic.

loving'fables' and the book he wrote'beneath the underdog'is fookin maazing! anyone else digging the mingus? Charles Mingus was a genius. He never made a bad album - that I know of. My favourites are: Black Saint & The Lady Sinner The Clown Ah Um Oh Yeah Blues & Roots Mingus On Piano Let My Children Hear Music New Tijuana Moods Beneath The Underdog is a staggering piece of writing. Most people are only good at one thing. Mingus was brilliant at too. "I Am Three". There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently
