I do find it hard to make a choice but I think I would have to give it to

David Bowie could take the title if he'd just been more pop. From the beginning to the end of the 70's he did great stuff, just didn't have many hits (at least in the US).

My favorite decade is the 1990's closley followed by the 1970's.

I find it harder to chose for the 1970's because there were so many great bands and albums but of Course I don't remember it at the time so in way that takes away from it.

Anyway I'll go For Black Sabbath.

burn-out and general change in taste, I suppose - I don't dislike him or think that he's not worthy of praise or anything like that. The harshest thing I would ever say is that I prefer his source material (the who and dylan and Neu and Eno and so on) to his own records.

Really, I just don't really get much pleasure out of listening to any of his albums these days, except for the odd dip into the Berlin/Eno era - but I bet if I saw him live, or just got re-introduced to it in the right context I'd completely eat my words.

yes, I actually did catch him on the last go-around - was that the reality tour? the show was in late '03 or early '04 if I have my timeline right. Excellent gig featuring a good crowd-pleasing mix of material, though (pardon me for being predictable) I could have done without the newer stuff. I know some think he's really made a comeback in the past few years, but his recent material didn't feel particularly essential to me, though it never helps to be hearing it cold as I was. Nevertheless, it was a highly enjoyable gig - under pressure was practically heart-stopping. I did go through a bit of a Bowie renaissance after that, but it didn't stick.

I also saw the Glass Spider tour. the less said about that the better, I suppose - bad album, bad hair, bad has-been guitarist as the tour's special guest (Peter Frampton, for pete's sake, who almost managed to ruin Sons of the Silent Age. I shouldn't call him a has-been though...that's kinda mean. He had his time...)

And I do have the Reality DVD somewhere filed away – I’ve given it a few spins, thought it was quite enjoyable, though I have the same quibble with it as I had with the actual concert – a touch too much new material.
