Whatever Happens, dont let go of my hand

I had just iTunes MJ's Invincible album; not terribly impressed with the songs I had heard so far, I did like Cry quite a bit though.
But the most MOST passionate and real song for me was Whatever Happens; it sounds so different from the mechanical music; its the most organic song on the album, and Carlos Santana's guitar and the way MJ interacts with it are just awesome. I wish he would do more soulful tracks like this, for me the best song on the album

Agreed. That song kicks all ass! Overall Invincible is an average to less-than-average album. But I do like some songs like "Break of Dawn", "Butterflies" and ofcourse "Whatever Happens".

Interesting side note, a poll was done on an MJ fan forum to see what was their favourite song from Invincible. Whatever Happens won and Break of Dawn came second.

"Break of Dawn" is so fuckin awesome. I love it.

As for "Whatever Happens" it would HAVE been the perfect single to push Invincible to another million..but but but..stupid Sony. mad mad mad

The strings are gorgeous. And his voice... everyone raves about his voice on Butterflies but this is the one which gives me goosebumps! Especially at the end... the "leave us alone" part.

Great stuff.

the "leave us alone" part.

Isn't that "Heaven Can Wait". Another decent song, IMO.

Exactly, the strings. Pure heaven. I love Mj singing in the low voice in the background.

There were a lot of really good songs on this album. Most notably:
Unbreakable
You Rock My World
Break Of Dawn
Butterflies
Whatever Happens.
Whatever happens would have been an excellent song for pop radio. Sony didn't push this album after a lot of the rumors started flying about MJ. When they cancelled the Butterflies single, I knew that it was doomed. The remix for Butterflies is excellent!

If MJ can pull another "Whatever Happens" out of his bag of tricks and make it the lead single for his next studio LP, I'll be a very happy camper.

The first half of Invincible was too "current" thanks to Darckchild but everything after "You Rock My World" is super...

I always loved Whatever Happens. I think if it was given the right push as a single, and the rest of the songs were of this quality (apart from those two already mentioned in this thread, which are awesome in their own right) Invincible could've scaled a few extra heights. I wish he and Santana would've performed Whatever Happens live.....that itself would have been positive for Invincible in terms of sales.

I certainly think he can if surrounded by the right musicians and producers; For me most if not all of the songs on 'Invincible' had potential, but the production distracts from the cool lyrics and great melodies Michael has been all about. Which makes me apprehensive about him working with Will I. Am...

I LOVE "Whatever Happens". I listen it virtually everyday and never tire of it. This would be the perfect LIVE and ACOUSTIC song for MJ to perform. The passion and rawness that he exudes while singing this song cause goosebumps all over my arms. Everytime that I listen to Invincible, I think of the wonderful songs:"Butterflies", "Break of Dawn", "Heaven Can Wait", YRMW, "Whatever Happens", 2000 Watts and it saddens me that Sony @#$%-up things. This album would have been HUGE if they had not sabotaged it. It was the first MJ album in a long time that DJ's played the songs and didn't say anything negative because they LOVED the songs. I am so looking forward to Michael's new album and hope and pray that he goes in the same vein as the great jams on Invincible. If he does, R&B fans and radio will embrace it as they did with Invincible. He doesn't need to worry about pop radio at all. They virtually don't matter. If they play him fine, if not, then that's alright, also.

speaking of his new album...

JAPANESE FAN POSSIBLY HEARD NEW MJ INSTRAMENTALS

Last semester in my Anthropology class, we started having pen pals from Japan, the one I had is also a Michael Jackson fan. We exchanged numbers and talked twice, and said we would keep in touch.. ANYWAYS. She just called me and told me she's been fallowing Michael since he's been there, and JUST got home. She told me that when she was fallowing him from his hotel to the electronic store, there was about 4 minutes that there were not any crowds, which was in the streets. She told me that she managed to pull up beside him, and she told me she heard music (only instramentals) blaring out of the vehicle with the window cracked. She said it had an R&B feel, with strong base, and (she was not sure) what type of guitar. She said it sounded like the same instrament Carlos Santana used in Whatever Happens but played very differently. She told me that she was not sure if it was INDEED his song, there were no vocals, but it was pure instramentals.. She stuck her head out the window, and Michaels window went a little lower to show his hand and waved.. After that, the window went fully up, and she could not hear it anymore..

after the person who made this post got a few replies, he/she said...

she said it sounded really cool.. And one major reason why she thinks its Michael is because the beat was not a type she has heard out instramentals.. She said it did not sound like a complete song.. Most instramentals, Jazz, etc. Have Sound a a full song.. She said there were parts that would be harder to hear.. Where she pictures vocals would go.. Without it,(she said) would be kinda odd. "It had alot of rhythm." A dance beat, not techno, but a Popish, R&B, with a hip hop type of drums.. I asked her, if that intramental would go on any album which one could u picture.. She said, A mixture of OFF THE WALL and DANGEROUS.. The strings and rhythm like Off the Wall. But the tempo and drums like Dangerous.. I'll get more out of her, next time I talk to her.. She was really tired, she said she did not sleep since MJ arrived. lol! (She's sleeping now) I think..

So she sees MJ's car and hears music blasting out of it. Something that sounds like an unfinished demo of a song. And instrumental that sounds like it wasn't written as an instrumental, but rather a song with vocals, but the vocal haven't been recorded yet (or have been recorded but not put into the mix yet). It's an up-tempo rhythm pop/R&B song with strings and rhythm like Off The Wall and drum beats like Dangerous. When he notices her listening, he winds the windows up (and probably turns down the music).

I think that sounds promising, and reliable. Why else would Michael wind the windows up? Unless he thought she was paparazzi trying to get some pictures (although it didn't mention she had a camera, and she didn't post any photos). Obviously he was playing new music, possible figuring out the vocal part, or thinking about what he could change/improve about the arrangement, and wound the window up because it's new and he doesn't want people to hear it yet. But then, why drive around with the window down and the music way up in the first place if you don't want people to hear it? Ever heard of headphones? Keep it to yourself Mike, until it's ready.

If it really is a new, unfinished MJ song, I like that it's an Off The Wall/Dangerous cross. That's cool. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
