Girl Groups

I love girl groups! They have been such a huge part of the music industry thoughout the years. In saying this, I was wondering what everyone's top 5 favorite girl groups are.

My Top 5 are:

1.) TLC
2.) SWV
3.) Salt N' Pepa
4.) EnVogue
5.) LaBelle

So, what are your top 5?

Spice Girls, Destiny's Child, TLC, Bangles,

I actually have to admit that I enjoyed the "Spice Girls" back in the day. They were fun and didn't take themselves too seriously. I still listen to their music every now and then just to dance. biggrin I forgot about Wilson Philips. I actually liked them too. I like some of Destiny's Child's songs, but I have a hard time looking at them as a group, even though they are. I used to refer to them as Beyonce and the two chicks that sing backup. I didn't know their names until the "Survivor" song, but I like Kelly Rowland a whole lot more than Beyonce. I had two of my friends, who didn't know each other and met Destiny's Child on two separate occasions, say that Beyonce was really snotty and rude, but that Kelly was super nice. I believed them after I heard some interview about her in which her mom said that when Beyonce was younger, she asked one of B's classmates why she didn't like Beyonce and the little girl said, "Because I just don't like her." lol She just seems very arrogant to me and I can't support someone who feels like they are God's gift to man and that their shit doesn't stink. I'll forever love TLC. They just seemed soo real to me. Thanks for posting. Oh, and I love your avatar. It's cute. biggrin

Thanks for posting everyone. The only one of these groups I've never heard of is the "Emotions"...thanks Harlepolis...they're really pretty too. biggrin Now that I'm more knowlegable, can someone recommend some songs from these amazing ladies so that I can become more educated on women who have rocked the music scene. Plus, let me know what it is about these women that have enticed you into saying that they are your top five. biggrin

Harlepolis

Does anybody remember them?

They later joined Ray Charles and changed their names to the Raylettes.

Speaking of the "Ettes". The Ikettes have enjoyed a big hit back in the early 60s called "I'm Blue(The Gong Song)" something to that effect.

Cissy Houston's Sweet Inspiration were ahead of their times too. Thats why they were kinda obscure and settled with the session scene.

And I don't know if you call them a girl group,,,,but they were a HELLUVA group..

Girl groups are great as long as they can all actually sing. Groups like the PCD and Danity Cane and many others simply suck. Those that have talent, such as En Vogue, The Supremes and several others are great!
