Ingrid is nice, she sent me a mp3 of Hippy Blood through myspace because I had never heard it, she post poetry in her blogs every so often and she has new material up also. Hippy Blood was a neat track I would like to hear the rest of the album one day.

It does say why in the Prince - a documenary book though. Of that i am certain.

Here's what The Vault has to say about the title of Ingrid's album:
"The title of Ingrid Chavez's album, May 19, 1992, was intended to signify that the album was a snapshot of one day in Chavez's life."

Wasn't her CD released before that date? according to the book "possesed" the CD was released on my birthday ( not that it matters that it was my birthday just easy to remember ) Sept 24th 1991, but allmusic has the release date the same as the album title wich is wrong So ingrid sued Madonna cuz she wrote Justify My Love and received no credit or pay, hmmm.

I remember reading (in Uptown?) that Prince was pissed at Ingrid because she recorded her CD mostly without his help.He was busy on other projects and Ingrid didn't want to wait,so she went to Warners herself and contacted Charles Koppelman, who co-produced it with her.Prince felt that she should have waited patiently for HIM to assist her.Anybody remeber hearing this?

Her boyfriend at the time,Lenny Kravitz, came up with "Justify My Love" by using a poem that Ingrid had written for him.She actually sued him,not Madonna.I think she eventually received 25% of the royalties.

huh. i don't remember that. i just know prince worked on five of the tracks on the album. this is around when he started slowing down on the Paisley Park side projects...i remember being disappointed that prince didn't produce all of mavis staples's first album, but that's the direction it was going.

(Copied off Ingrid's myspace page). Holy crap, THAT'S Ingrid? She sure has changed a lot over the years. She doesn't even look like the same person who was in the movie "Graffiti Bridge". RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I always wondered about that too it says "May 19,1992" if I'm not mistaken. I actually got this from Ingrid herself when I asked the same question: she finished her album on May 19, 1991 - so "May 19, 1992" signifies one year after that day, the date she was hoping to have her next album ready. yeah he the story goes that he kind of hated on the whole project after that I found my 'Days Of Wild' book and it explains what happened.Apparently,Prince didn't want Chavez to sing on the album! He just wanted her to recite her poetry over his instrumental tracks. She recorded two songs "Little Mama" and "Hippy Blood" with producer/engineer Michael Koppelman. In contrast to the previously recorded songs (produced by Prince),these two tracks featured Chavez actually singing. She took the two songs to Warner Bros' Benny Medina, who was very enthusiastic and wanted her to do more songs in the same vein.Prince was very disappointed that she had played the songs to the record company before discussing it with him.His concept for the album had been that there would be no singing. An argument ensued when Chavez wanted to gain more control and do more songs with her singing. The outcome was that Prince withdrew from the project, leaving it to Koppelman and Levi Seacer,Jr to finish it with Chavez. His friendship with Chavez never recovered from the incident. sounds like another example of Prince wanting to control one of his proteges. It's a shame because Ingrid's album is actually one of the few genuinely inspired albums to come from Paisley Park Records.

I read that May 19, 1992 was a year after the day the cover photo was shot
Also I always wondered why Ingrid didn't pursue music more after parting with Prince (other that small things with her husband) [Edited 3/5/07 5:40am] If you will, so will I
