Now they should have a Black Rocker show Shit, if they can make a show about White folks rapping, why not have a show about Black rockers taking back the music that's rightfully theirs? NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

It wouldn't work. The thing about the White Rapper show is that white people generally can't rap. Or atleast not as well as black people. But black people can rock hard. A lot of them, better than white people (Jimi Hendrix, Prince). So I don't think it would work for that reason. But if it happened, I would still watch it.

I said this on a thread a month ago. VH-1 doesn't have the balls to do it. They feel it wouldn't be "marketable" in today's music scene.

Sorry, but that's BS. There's just as many bad black rockers as there are bad white rappers. It's all in the casting. [Edited 3/1/07 4:45am]

Are we getting into a whole useless bs argument on here about which race can rock out harder than the other? Doesn't seem to be a very helpful or progressive stance to make.

Are we getting into a whole useless bs argument on here about which race can rock out harder than the other? no...that is, until you decided to post yer question. anyhoo, this reminds me: i just watched the documentary afro-punk for the first time a week ago, and this thread re-sparked my thoughts on the whole black rocker thing. i think it'd be really interesting to see a competition with black rock groups, in order to get the rest of the general public to see that it does exist. it'd be nice for my peers to see that punk rock and rock in general is anyone's game, and not just for white people. if i had a quarter for every time i've been asked "why you listen to that rock stuff, that's what white folks listen to!" or why i wear what i wear (yes, i am a punk-funkster sista), i'd be up past my head in laundry money by now. i'd be swimming around like scrooge mcduck on my way to the laundry room downstairs.

[Edited 3/1/07 8:49am] it takes two to start it up, actually... Yes, perhaps you are right. But my intent was to say that it should not become a topic of importance or debate because it is a very ignorant and useless discussion matter to get into. That is all I was saying. I mean what exactly is the positive point of saying the whole 'oh, this race is much better at rocking out than this race' thing? [Edited 3/1/07 9:12am]

DarlingDiana said: There's is also just as many bad white rockers This has come up before regarding bands getting bookings on latenite shows like Conan, Letterman, Kimmel et al. I'm amazed at the tolerance there is for mediocre rock bands that are primarily white and largely unknown. While usually they are breaking a single, it's not unusual for a band to get the spotlight for no real apparent reason. For black acts on this circuit, a hip-hop or R&B pop act has a higher priority, but I know I could pick a different black rock band each night that would be more deserving. test

But the ratio of Black rock acts or Rock groups with Black members is kinda smaller though. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Well I just started this thread since the whole theme of the White Rapper show was based on role reversal. Unfortunately since the conventional wisdom among many is that Rap is designed for Black folks and Rock for White, I figured why not do a switcheroo?
But of course that's so untrue. There are Rockers and rappers out there in America (and the rest of the world as well) that come in all colors. I don't think music should be associated or identified by race. But unfortunately in America that's how it is. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Exactly, america thinks more in Race now than ever before. If anything the boundaries in music are so "plain as day" its amazing. The fact that there isnt an RB Band out there speaks volumes about how labels think and what the younger generation is thinking. I would challenge one of these shows to put together an RB band as their theme, and im not talking something like Boyz II men or Next, IM talking a Band those arent bands. Im talking Commodores, EWF, Parliament, no one would have the balls to put that on the air, it doesnt sell. I would LOVE to see a show about Black Rock! It's a shame that society likes to put colors on genres, because it's just silly. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com
