Could this by why they are airing old episodes of "Soul Train"?

I've been searching the internet searching for future episodes of "Soul Train" so I decided to check the "Soul Train" website and see if it had any details. This was on the front page of the site.....

Please do not buy, illegally, ripped off, bootlegged or pirated Soul Train DVDs - from any source.
We are asking all Soul Train friends and fans - in our most serious terms of reaching out for your loyalty and support - to refrain from ordering and/or purchasing, unlawfully, ripped off, bootlegged or pirated Soul Train TV Programs or Soul Train TV Program Clips, on DVDs, tapes or any other video format.

The cause of our alarm stems from a, current, awareness of Soul Train Programming and Soul Train Programming Clips, being, openly, offered for purchase over the internet. The, apparent, invaders of our Soul Train programming ownership - and US Patent Office, registered copyrights, appears to be a so-called internet website - identifying itself, quite brazenly, as “blackhanddvd.com” - a, clearly, no-holds-barred operation, holding no legal rights or authorization, whatsoever, with respect to the selling of Soul Train program footage (regardless of format or configuration).

The persons who are operating the above-mentioned “blackhanddvd.com” website, who are attempting to sell copyrighted Soul Train programming, with no legal right to do so, seem convincing in the role of lawless copyright violators, with no respect for Federal laws against stealing the copyrighted works of others. Moreover, these same thieves seem equally convincing as the caliber of lowlifes who enjoy stealing the rare creativity of others - through criminal action.

Indeed, the severest damage caused by internet bandits, could be seen as the scarring that such dishonest pursuits can leave on the reputation of the internet itself; so widely revered for its, extraordinary, usefulness and the profoundly valued, overall, services it renders.

Repeating - we are asking the following of all Soul Train fans and friends - in our most serious terms of reaching out for your loyalty and support - with genuine appreciation: Please do not buy, illegally, ripped off, bootlegged or pirated Soul Train DVDs - from any source.

Maybe they figure if they air some of the old episodes they will put the bootleggers out of business. lol

lol It's too late,I already bought a set of 10 VHS Soul Train tapes years ago.

If they don't want fans buying bootlegs, they need to release it themselves!! (Hmmm...sound familiar?? lol).I would be first in line to pay for a multi-DVD set of all the 70s episodes.I can't see why they don't do this.Episodes of 'The Midnight Special' are now on DVD.

Until they wise up and release this stuff themselves,I will enjoy my bootlegs and continue to look elsewhere for episodes that I don't have. It's really up to them.

i have a SKEEVY bootleg of the david bowie episode that i can barely see or hear, and i have a barely serviceable bootleg of that insane episode prince did with the dancers and all the new/then-unreleased songs during the symbol years (which i find fascinating for whatever reason). i'd LOVE to have these and a bunch of other episodes in perfect quality!

I have that same footage of David Bowie on 'Soul Train' in 1976.He sings "Fame" and another song that I can't recall right now.

Exactly. What the hell are they waiting for? They are going to end up taking so long that we are all going to die off and the next generation won't give a damn about "Soul Train" and won't buy them. They better go ahead and make them some money while they still can.

As long as they keep airing these old episodes, I'm happy. They are great quality and they are free. I've got nine episodes already and am looking forward to a tenth one this weekend with Billy Preston and The Sylvers. After that will be Vanity 6 and Carl Carlton. I had to answer your question about future episodes because I didn't know if you saw it in your thread that has moved over to another page. I wouldn't want you to miss the shows. lol

There could be another reason why they are reairing Soul Train episodes, I got this off Imdb. http://imdb.com/title/tt0...t/65403969

"The suits were considering pulling the plug until Don agreed to start airing the vintage episodes. The classics are showing marked improvements on the ratings lists, so the old eps will continue to air for now. Apparently, Don would like to continue filming at least a small batch of new episodes just long enough to surpass Bandstand's record as the longest airing first-run program in American Television history (and possibly Top of the Pops' World Record, although they're still about six years short of that and squeezing another six seasons out of Soul Train airing all new episodes is a VERY unlikely scenario). I'm not sure if they're allowed to lay claim to the record if they air reruns from here on out, even if those reruns end up carrying the show on in syndication for a period longer than AB or TOTP aired."

Personally, I don't know why Soul Train still on air, I guess he wants to beat Dick Clark's record of being the longest first-run program.

This is great news. Of course the ratings have improved. Just look at us right here on the org. We have a thread or two every week to discuss the upcoming episode and also to discuss the episode we just saw. Before they started airing the old episodes, the only time a thread was started about "Soul Train" was to talk about how shitty it has become.

Also, another reason for shows to be successful is for the advertised products to sell well. Well, I may not have bought any of the things advertised on the show, but the old episodes are the very reason I recently bought a DVD recorder. (Thanks Finess, for hipping me that the price has gone down). See, the old episodes are doing some good. Keep up the good work. lol

If he absolutely insists on filming new episodes, he should have reunion shows with the old dancers and play old music during the show or he should film new episodes with old entertainers performing their old songs.....and old songs being played for the dancers. If it's going to be called "Soul Train", it needs to be "Soul Train" not the "Shit Hop Train".

I'd like that too but the first place I would like to start buying would be around 1978 and you know they would start releasing from the first season and work their way through. Another thing they might do is put episodes from different years in the DVD package and I wouldn't like that all because they would put some 1990s shit on it and I would be ready to smash it up against the wall. lol

The station in your area that keeps airing it at 4 a.m. just needs their ass beat, that's all. If you have a VCR or DVD recorder, set it for 4 a.m. Unfortunately, you would have commercials on your recording so that would suck. Go up to the television station and kick their asses. lol

WB 11 in NYC has stopped airing SOUL TRAIN. The 4am showings have been pulled also. Oh well, I'm glad I have the episodes I want on VHS. Still looking for the "BOOTSY 78" show. Hopefully it'll surface on the "utube".

Yeah, ST has seen its best days and MTV/BET have pretty much killed it to where there is no need for the show now.

I think that it would be absolutely brilliant for Don Cornelius to release these old episodes on DVD, But I don't know if he owns all of the episodes outright or if he shares ownership with Tribune, Inc. (the owners of WGN, WPIX, KTLA, the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Cubs). I wonder if there's some kind of dispute between DC and Tribune regarding royalties; and don't forget that the record companies are probably involved in this as well. I remember that it took five years for old episodes of "WKRP In Cincinnati" to be released on DVD because the record companies demanded huge royalties for the songs which were played on each episode. I wonder if this is one of the reasons why this show is not on DVD yet.

It depends on where you live I guess. I live in Philly and they show Soul Train at 3AM Sunday Night/Monday Morning after that Poker show Hip Hop Hold'em.

I'm really glad Don is showing these old episodes, I'm only 27 and I've only been watching since I was 6 in 1985. I've taped every Best Of they've aired so far, I just wish they would show some Episodes from 1977-1979. 1979 especially because that's the year I was born. I've noticed they focused on 1974,1975, 1981,1982 the most so far.

Did they ever finally release WKRP? That is one of my favorite shows. I know they were thinking about making all the music the DJs played in the radio studios generic music so the show wouldn't seem "dated" (I hated that fucking word). Hell, the music is the main reason I love the show. The music and Venus.

That's one of the main years I want to see also because that's when I first started watching the show. For some reason, some of the dancers liked to wear what we used to call "baseball uniforms". I remember the Asian girl and her partner wearing one. lol

what songs do you think we will hear? If it's December 1975,I predict they will play:

"Singasong" by Earth Wind and Fire
"Love Rollercoaster" by Ohio Players
"Love Machine" by The Miracles
"Fame" by David Bowie
"This Will Be" by Natalie Cole
