Tupac is a record holder

I just found out today that Tupac Shakur holds the record for being the best selling hip-hop artist of all time, with over 75 million albums sold worldwide

The lesson here is: You have to die to become successful in the music business

I know this. I love Tupac, but I do think most of his record sales came after his death

I wonder if anyone in hip hop will ever sell more records. I think Tupac is the only artist to ever have a #1 pop album while serving a prison sentence too.

Well if tupac were alive who knows how he would have sold and what he would be doing now. BUT you havent to remember a really high % of those sales are from Death and if you take away all the after death releases, it would be a different story. I mean Selena is one of the biggest selling Latin Singers of all time, next to Julio and Shakira, but is she really and would she have been??

Sometimes someone's death gives the media attention...people then listen and get the essence of the artist and it's brilliance

He is one of the genre's best. No getting around that.

Tupac's writing captured the entire feeling or sense of whatever the song addressed.. from feeling trapped/under stress, to apathy (not-giving-a-fuck-ness), to sexual arousal/pleasure, to hope for the future. It wasn't just a sense of using imagery or graphic words, but also the thoughts or situations a person would be reacting to.

Sorry if that doesn't make any sense, I'm not a writer like Tupac.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

It makes total sense "So Many Tears" is one of those beautifully written and wonderfully expressed songs. My mom doesn;t even listen to hip-hop and she loves that song. I rememebr playing the single for her (on cassette) and she was like "OMG, do you hear what he's saying? This is deep."

It's more than "imagery".. it's like he lived every feeling/experience, when really he is just a great interpreter of life.. even when he's being gangsta (All Eyez on Me) no one described the streets like Tupac did.

thumbs up!

Correct. 'Pac was very successful before he was kill. But what Janfriend is saying is 'Pac sold more albums dead than alive.
