JANET TO STAR IN NEW TYLER PERRY FLICK

Jackson gets 'Married'
Thesp to star with Tyler in Lionsgate pic
By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK

Janet Jackson has come aboard to star opposite Tyler Perry in his next film, "Why Did I Get Married," based on the filmmaker's stage play of the same name.
Perry is writing, directing and producing for Lionsgate. Lensing is set to begin March 5 in Whistler, British Columbia; Vancouver; and then Atlanta, where Perry recently opened his own studio.

Sharon Leal ("Dreamgirls") and Jill Scott have also joined the cast.

The fourth film in Perry's lucrative franchise, "Why Did I Get Married" revolves around a couple who go away with friends every winter to examine their marriages in a group setting. One of the wives brings along a sexy young temptress who causes plenty of trouble for the couples.

Reuben Cannon is producing with Perry.Jackson was last seen on the bigscreen in 2000 in "Nutty Professor II: The Clumps," starring opposite Eddie Murphy.

Perry is in theaters with "Daddy's Little Girls," which has grossed $25.1 million since its Feb. 14 release.

If shooting begins on March 5,I guess this means that her tour really is cancelled.

Janet was acting long before her first album was released.

His movies have a big audience though. They seem to connect with a lot of people.

Funny, I just jokingly mentioned in another thread that she should just do a Madea (Tyler Perry) flick and call it a day. Too bad his films don't interest me.

I saw that play on DVD and it was good but not as memorable as his Meada plays...and "Meet The Browns", which doesn't have Meada, is the funniest although way over the top. COuld be a good role, though.

I was wondering when the tour was supposed to start? Becuase I think his movies tend to have a lower budget and she won't be filming very long.

I don't GET the appeal of Perry. This guy has minimal talent.....similair 2 the various hacks from SNL that u can find all over the place.

Maybe this isn't such a bad idea for Janet.Tyler's movies have done very well and at this point,Janet really needs a successful project. In another thread,I suggested that she doesn't seem to be inspired by music and performing anymore.Perhaps she should take a break from music and concentrate on something else for a change.A hit movie would be a step in the right direction.

He has lots of great talent it's just people tend to hate that his work is not from the Broadway poitn of view which makes his plays very much entertaining...

Yes! Yes! Yes! woot! I love Tyler Perry's Madea stuff, and Meet The Browns was hilarious until the end and it gets too outrageous. Some of his other stuff and his TV show weren't really good at all, but he is talented and can put together some hellaciously funny stuff that has a message and a meaning. I can't wait to see Janet in another movie! I liked Poetic Justice, and I still love Nutty Prifessor 2! I also still watch old episodes of Good Times and still cry when she gets burned and abused in her first episode. Also, the episode when Wilona has that boyfrien who keeps showering Penny with gifts and they have that party with all the weirdos and Penny's real mother tries to frame Wilona to get Penny back makes me cry too. cry

But I hope this is for real and doesn't get cancelled or delayed!

no, his films and plays are horribly written with odd mixtures of genres that kill all belief that what you are watching are real people on the stage or on the big screen.

it frustrates me that we african american's don't demand a higher standard of quality in our entertainment. I don't mind the messages that Perry tries to get across in his work...actually i think his messages are a positive for the community but he needs to start working with people who actually have talent with their pens...

I pretty much agree. I think he has really good intentions and a wonderful vision but the end product turns out to be a hodge podge of I don’t know what. He could use a co-writer if he doesn’t have one or maybe he needs to work with someone else’s script.

Then again I’m often surprised at what people find entertaining. neutral

That's exactly what he needs. The key to Perry's success though is that he's found an audience and he knows how to deliver to them, and that's 90% of the job right there: Feed the demand. And that demand is from black church folk that aren't holy rollers but the casual church-goer. No one was really addressing that audience and it turned out to be a huge niche audience.

That I can guarantee will never happen. Spike would have no reason to cast her in anything.

Naw, that dude is box office gold right now, so he won't be seeing the straight to dvd section anytime soon with any of his projects. Lionsgate LOVES that dude right about now.

Yeah, no Madea in it. His fan base knows him mainly for Madea, that's his bread and butter.

Lets not be sure,,,,he recruited Madonna as a sex phone operator shrug lol

Considering how crazy his ideas can be, he could def squeeze Miss Janet somewhere between his madness.
