Shit, if they can make a show about White folks rapping, why not have a show about Black rockers taking back the music that's rightfully theirs? lol

.....and RISK having brothers take rock music BACK? Won't happen.

anyhoo, this reminds me: i just watched the documentary afro-punk for the first time a week ago, and this thread re-sparked my thoughts on the whole black rocker thing. i think it'd be really interesting to see a competition with black rock groups, in order to get the rest of the general public to see that it does exist. it'd be nice for my peers to see that punk rock and rock in general is anyone's game, and not just for white people.

Don't miss this one if it comes to your town or gets released on DVD.

There's is also just as many bad white rockers

This has come up before regarding bands getting bookings on latenite shows like Conan, Letterman, Kimmel et al. I'm amazed at the tolerance there is for mediocre rock bands that are primarily white and largely unknown. While usually they are breaking a single, it's not unusual for a band to get the spotlight for no real apparent reason. For black acts on this circuit, a hip-hop or R&B pop act has a higher priority, but I know I could pick a different black rock band each night that would be more deserving.

I think a lot of it has to do with the audience. But I wish the tolerance for these bands wasn't so widespread because I'm tired of my friends coming at me with some shit band saying, "These guys are AWESOME!"

I'm sick of all these amateur shows of any genre. If a good group comes out, I'm more than happy to hear their CD but I have no desire to watch an amateur on TV. Not only is it boring as hell, but it is taking up air time that they could be filled with an actual entertaining show.

I like seeing amateur bands in clubs but a club isn't going to hire a singer or band that sounds like shit. The purpose of these reality competitions is to show all the ones that are horrible so they can make fun of them. I don't find that shit entertaining at all. People are so damn bored these days that they will accept anything as entertainment. The networks love it too because they don't have to pay for professional actors, actresses, stage sets, props, or whatever else goes with making a professional sitcom, drama, or action show. Just put a bunch of amateurs in front of a camera and give them a free trip to California.

I've known Tori for years. Way back when he had his band called Civil Rite. My band at the time, Amalgam, used to gig with Civil Rite quite a bit. We got better nights (Friday, Saturday) and made more money doing shows together. Clubs were much quicker in booking us if both bands were on the same bill. I wish someone would release the documentary on the Black Rock Coalition (West Coast Chapter). Civil Rite and my band were featured in this.
