hip hop does suck! Most of the music is garbage now. I liked hip hop in the 90's and loved discovering older music through its samples. But it pisses me off how airhead teenagers and people in their 20's like me listen to that stuff and think no other music exists and that it's all original when it clearly isn't. Some girl who's 26 was saying the other day how much she loves dancing to akon's music, and I couldn't hide my disgust. Hasn't she been around long enough to realize that there were better artists before?

Just ask acts like K-O's and The Roots if Hip Hop is dead.

Concious Hip Hop is alive and well, just not mainstream.

Hip-Hop died on the same night that 2pac died (?). Hell yeah, it's damn true.

And then Shyt-Hop (starting with the dirty south) made a bad situation worse.

No, wait!!! I'm wrong.

Hip-Hop died when 2pac made a deal with one of Satan's children (Suge Knight).

First of all, Big ups to Starmon for posting this article. It certainly gives you alot to think about. What struck me the most about it was David Banners comments about this being the kind of music that people want to hear. I think that these record executives and radio programmers have to take part of the blame because they are the ones that are forcing some of these artists and their music down our throats. There has to be a market for people who don't want to hear songs about Guns, Dope, Money, Gangbanging and Hoes.

There was plenty of violent imagery in hip-hop going all the way back to the late 1980's and early 1990's with Public Enemy, N.W.A., Ice-T, 2Pac, and others, but even the blood-soaked lyrics underscored the reality of life in the ghetto at that time, with poverty, homelessness, drug dealing, teen pregnancy, and corrupt cops. Unfortunately, all of that started to die after the deaths of Tupac and Biggie and the rise of Diddy and all of the commercialized bling bling rap. Suddenly hip-hop became all about cars, Cristal, bling, conspicuous consumption, and making money. Even the "violent" imagery became more of a fashion statement, with 50 Cent being promoted by telling people about how he was shot nine times instead of for his lyrical skills or pulsating beats. And then came crunk, with its even slower beats and drawled out lyrics. What's really disturbing about the state of mainstream hip-hop today isn't its violent imagery or misogynistic take on women but the plain banality of the art form. Its bloated, sick and in serious need of an infusion. It's at the same place today where hard rock was in the mid 1970's or hair metal was in the late 1980's and early 1990's; it's waiting for its punk/grunge moment.

hiphop is really dying there is no denying that!! This time its for real

The album sales have been so bad lately!!

I follow the charts all the time!!
