D'Angelo What's The Deal??

Man, am I the only one wanting D'Angelo to lay off the crack and throw down some tracks? I think D'Angelo contributed two of the best R&B/Soul albums of the nineties and even the new millennium, and was extremely disappointed when the news of his addiction and arrest broke. This man has some ridiculous talent and I would hate to see it limited to only two albums! His website says he's back in the studio but I've heard the same thing about Lauren Hill a million times. And if he does drop another album will it be on the same level as the past two? Damn, inquiring minds want to know!

well from the reports this last decade he must have recorded enough
songs for at least 10 albums.

so i wish they would just release something already. it doesn't even
have to be the best thing every, but just some nice tunes to tie us
over until he gets ready to release his decent follow up.

that would perhaps take the pressure off it all for himself too.

So far, everything he recorded didn't sit well with his record label.

Same script happend to Lauryn Hill,,,both are over their past statements but the record label want them to repeat themselves.

exactly. or just throw some stuff onto the internet.

i just can't believe that people are signed to some
contracts these days that make it impossible for them
to release new music even when the company decides to
not release anything for like TEN FREAKIN YEARS.

how does anyone benefit from that? just cause they've
signed D'Angelo or Lauryn, should they sit on their
albums and let their carreers just die?

surely it's better to just release an album's worth
of (from a record exex view 'so-so' material) song,
like once every 3 years than not release anything at
all by an artist.

geez. or just let them out of their contract/sell a
contract to another company who is willing to be a
bit more freeflowing with their new direction stead
of forcing them to re-write their first album over
and over again or refusing to release it.

It's a shame when the record labels try to do that...it's stops the artist evolution! sad

I thought I read on OkayPlayer.com that D recently laid down some tracks with Questlove, and Quest thought they were fantastic, but that D did not like them or something. I think all the stuff that has happened to him in the past few years (the drugs, gaining weight when he used to be the finest cat in the biz, all the negitive comments, and personal shit) have realy drained him of his self confidence. I have read on OKP that prince and him were really cool in the past, but then P started getting an attitude with him and it hurt him really bad because P was his hero. I saw him on VH1 soul the other day doing Sex Machine with Tom Jones and remembered how amazing this performance was. He was at his peak, in his element, and he really just was dazzling on the Men strike back show that year. I also saw the voodoo tour in orlando and was in awe of the talent of this man who was creating a legendary career before my eyes! It was just magic, and to think that this is all that we might ever have of him is just beyond sad. Its not right!!! I think he just needs to get over ALL of that shit, and come back and take his rightful place as the best young R&B talent of the past decade. It just don't matter to me.....Fat, thin, old, young, inspired, uninspired, same old same old, or visionary like the voodoo album... WE NEED HIM BACK!! I will take him anyway that I can get him he is just that good.....
