Randy Rhodes is classic. That's better than a hero.

Randy Rhoads was the real deal as far as guitar heroes go. He was a master composer, player and teacher, and above all, a lover of music and a lover of the instrument. The fact that, when he was on breaks from touring and recording with Ozzy, he would head back to LA to teach players of all levels, really speaks volumes about his calibre as a man and a musician.

While on tour, he would also scour the local phone books to seek out classical teachers to take lessons from them. Randy Rhoads is anything but "overhyped". He made me want to become well-versed musically, as far as theory/scales/chords are concerned. He had a cool image as well.

Another amazing thing was his ability to perfectly overdub complicated parts perfectly.

My next favorite from the Ozzy camp is Jake E. Lee. Loved his Badlands group.

Ozzy was never able to replace the peerless Randy Rhodes.
Jake E Lee is SO underated! One of my favs.
Did you know that bassist Bob Daisley wrote almost all the lyrics on the Ozzy albums he played on? Ozzy and Sharon ALLEDGEDLY have screwed Daisley,Jake and even Randy out of mucho dinero.

He played real fast, but that's about it. Prince plays with more heart.

Tell me something - what the heck does "plays with more heart" mean? I only hear generalizations like this coming from non-musicians and middle-aged "weekend warriors" (white collar workers who frequent blues jam sessions on the weekends with super expensive equipment who remember a few blues licks from their garage band days) on the fenderforum messageboard.

Some people will go to any length to try and justify Prince's greatness. Even on a Journey thread

LOL!! Go get 'em Jesse! That's too funny...but true. I saw this stuffy dude at Sam Ash by me last weekend (who was rude to the salesperson and a total a##hole) who could barely play, but bought all this gear to try and nail Clapton's tone on "461 Ocean Blvd". He needed a lot more than that.

And Randy played from the heart just as much as P does. I used to hate when people tried to compare Randy to Jimi and who was better. I used to tell them you can't. They're 2 totally different players with 2 totally different styles from different eras. But they're both important to hard rock and heavy metal guitar.
