The girl in the band

I've always noticed that bands that have a female member seem to always grab people's attention. Groups like Gladys Knight and the Pips, No Doubt, Evanescence, The Fugees, Blondie, Black-Eyed Peas, and Ruff Ryders all had that one chick, who the majority of the time was better and more entertaining than all the male members put together. I used to wonder if many of these bands would have become as big as they did if they were all boys. Would they have been as interesting and entertaining if the girl wasn't there? I remember when the Black-Eyed Peas were just the three guys and they didn't get all that commercial success until they added Fergie. Does a female member make the band more noticeable? Plus, many of the females in these bands made successful solo albums...remember Ms. Lauryn Hill kickin' major ass at the Grammys a couple years back? I don't know. For me, it would be hard to imagine any of these groups without that leading lady standing front and center. I have to give them all props because it takes a lot of guts to rock out on a stage with a bunch of dudes. I can't even fathom what the tour bus rides must have been like. neutral

the only band you mentioned with a strong woman presence is Blondie.
