Harlepolis said: CosmicTalk said: I think the reason it didn't do well was because he had done so many controversial films up to that point, that when Crooklyn dropped, people were like "Where's the race riot and the interracial love affair?!?!" I tell you what Spike movie I didn't care much about: Mo' Better Bluse. With that impressive line-up,,,the story wasn't that much to be. He was trying to outdo Clint Eastwood when he did "Bird" but cat daddy somehow didn't pull it IMO. Namepeace has a different take on the movie than I, though. I liked MBB because it was a sex symbol vehicle for Denzel, that introduced him as "sexy man" to the world and his career was off and running from there as far as sex symbols go. He also introduced his "slide visual" when the character isn't moving but he's sliding anyway, so that was cool. The red bone chick couldn't act for shit, I think Spike was banging her and that's how she got the gig - the casting couch style. CosmicTalk said: sosgemini said: there was a dip in numbers for his last release...any ideas why? i thought it was going to be a lot bigger then it ended up. Yeah, no Madea in it. His fan base knows him mainly for Madea, that's his bread and butter. And this play didn;t have Meada (or any characters from that world like Mr. Brown or her daugther) in it. Might not perform well based on that. His new movie looks like something different (kind of) and it looks like it did OK but did not pull in near the numbers of the first two.

CosmicTalk said: wow, i think you've just named his worst 2 movies.
Naw, his back to back films, Crooklyn and Clockers were his 2 worst flicks. Those are two of my favorite Spike Lee movies I also think that 'Summer Of Sam' is brilliant.

It has many funny scenes and lots of funny dialog, but something dramatic is going on throughout the movie (someone's husband is cheating, someone's addicted to crack...etc), then at the end, there's a positive message about respecting and loving each other, because we're all family. For me, it's kinda like watching a very long episode of "Family Matters", "Full House", or "The Cosby Show". Madea is just Tyler Perry dressed as an old woman who is very outspoken and flamboyant, so she's pretty funny. I've never seen any of his films without Madea. Prince Rogers Nelson

He caught alot of head becoz of the way he portrayed Italian Americans in that movie(and most of his other movies like Jungle Fever and Do The Right Thing).

The soundtrack to 'Summer Of Sam' is interesting. It contains a rare (demo?) version of The Emotions's "Best Of My Love" that I hadn't heard before.
