Sun Kil Moon - GHOSTS OF THE GREAT HIGHWAY

If you are looking for something new to listen to do yourself a favor and pick this album up. Its pure greatness. Its a mostly acoustic album and Mark Kozelek's playing is genius. When you listen to this album its as if it is a gift from the gods. Not a duff track on it.
the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

MY GOD!!!!!

For the life of me I never ever thought that this cd would get a shout out on this site.

This is probably the number 1 album of my best of decade list thus far.

Linn you rock!!

On an artistic level I put this album on the par with any of Prince's classic 80s albums. I promise you I do not make that statement lightly.

Sun Kil Moon is comprised of Mark Kozelek, Tim Mooney, Anthony Koutsos, and Geoff Stanfield. But Kozelek, aka The Koz, is, for all intents and purposes, Sun Kil Moon. Amazingly talented musician. He was the leader of the critically acclaimed band The Red House Painters before starting up SKM.

Musically, GHOSTS OF THE GREAT HIGHWAY is influenced by Neil Young but its by no means a Neil rip off. The acoustic guitar playing is stunning on the album - particularly on the astounding 14 minute "Duk Koo Kim". The lyrics are amazing on this album too. 8 of the album's 10 tracks are acoustic.

Hearing this stunning album has turned me into a serious Mark Kozelek fan. Kozelek has released a solo album a year ago called TINY CITIES that is almost as amazing. I recommend it as well.

Pick up GHOSTS OF THE GREAT HIGHWAY. Its a modern classic.
