I think they strongly messed up the last part of the miniseries, they completely ignored the off the wall era, and didn't develop the Thriller era... confused

Also the last Randy jackson looked too old, he looked older than Michael Jackson, and where were the jackson sisters ???

HEY HEY HEY YOU GUYS! Give the movie a bit of credit..Berry Gordy said to Michael, in the scene, when he was trying to ease him into performing at Motown 25, "Thriller sounds good Michael. Didn't know you could better than Off The Wall." lol

I really liked The Jacksons - An American Dream, but this VH1 film was one of the most embarrasing things I´ve ever seen.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I felt that way at first. But you have to realize this story is about the FAMILY.

Also the last Randy jackson looked too old, he looked older than Michael Jackson, and where were the jackson sisters ???

Casting, in general, was a major flaw for the movie. The parents were OK, you are SO correct about Randy (he was like 14 when he joined the group, they cast a grown azz man), all the Marlons were "off", all the grown up characters sucked as actors. Worst scene is Hazel and Jermaine in the bedroom.

What I never got was, Michael never really had a figure like this guy, in his life. I thought maybe he was supposed to be this movie's version of Frank DiLeo, but I was never sure.

The Jacksons:An American Dream was the best movie! It's long as hell, but it's off the chain! I laughed, cried, got pissed at Joe, and I loved the music! I hated the one with Flex. He looked weird. like. weirder than Mike does now (and that's pretty hard to do)! I love Michael, but I'm not gonna sugar coat it, he was fine as hell until a little after Thriller. After that he started lookin all weird (until Bad through Dangerous. Then he looked cute, but in a pretty lady sorta way). Anywayz, I hated how he was portrayed in the movie with Flex. They made him seem crazy (like he needs pills for that shit and a check every month) and gay as hell! I don't think Mike is gay in real life, but in that movie Flex made it seem like he just oozed sissy all over the place! I like Flex, but not as Michael!

I think maybe that's because Motown wanted to focuse the storyline mainly on the relationship between the Jackson family and Motown.

yeah it's very focused on Motown. Even the Thriller era is really all about Motown 25.

One could argue that was Michael's defining moment as a solo artist, that really made him be in a class by himself.

Even so, I agree with you 100%, it was focused on Motown mainly.

I mean, I would have like to have seen a scene dealing with making the Thriller video, and the witnesses freaking out about it, sort of like done in "Man In The Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story" except less campy.

The first half was excellent, but I agree, the second half (with the Jacksons as adults) left some things to be desired. Casting, reinactments were just meh. Poor Wylie Draper tried his best with "Bille Jean." There were a few highlights, but as a kid, watching this all the time, I always turned the tape off after "Dancing Machine." lol I did enjoy the way they ended the series, with the "Thank You" song. Overall, a solid miniseries, but the first half is the best.
