I don't have the time to do a track by track breakdown at the moment.
However, it's an enjoyable set if you see it for what it is, a collection of alternate takes on tunes and songs that weren't included on albums released in the U.S.

A few songs are salvaged from botch jobs that Alan Douglas "reduced" (as opposed to produced).

The title tune gives an insight to one of the directions Hendrix may have been headed...



...as it has him in a setting with a horn section.

Power of Soul (in all it's different versions) has always been one of my favorite Hendrix tracks--and the one included here is pretty Kool (though my favorite version is from a boot called "Paper Airplanes")-- like a lot of the pieces in this compilation, it points to some new sounds from Hendrix--kind of a funk fusion thing going on, an earthy sound that Funkadelic was really gonna pick up and run with in the next year or so.

The whole compilation just emphasizes the fact that Hendrix was ready to take the music further--deeper Blues, Rock, Jazz, Soul, and beyond---

Oh yeah, and then there's that track 13, "Pali-Gap"-- no further comment

I was glad to see The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice make it to disc along with Tax Free (a rather overlooked instrumental).

The "beginnings" of Angel and Little Wing are also nice to have.

I really like the instrumental 'Pali Gap' from this album. It almost has a kind of latin Santana sound to it. At least that is what I thought when I first heard the song.

I haven't listened to this in a long time but I really dug the cuts. Jimi was going in a new direction and I think it would have been a nice mold of things later to come (like Funkadelic, Sly, and Santana).

Jimi really could have gotten himself hip to some black folks that wrote him off as a "sellout".

I was stuck on Pali Gap after I picked it up. I love The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice its such a rarity I was glad it was included. I love the studio version of Power Of Soul, any kind of version of Message To Love is alright with me and Midnight Lightning may be one of my all time favorite things Jimi ever did.

'Midnight Lighting' is pretty great. I love the tone of the song and the way his guitar sounds.

Deleted because I sounded like an unnecessarily grouchy twat even by my standards!
