As for females, it will always be:

Just dont let Hall and Oates hear you use that label. When they were on the "Musicians" show a few years back, David Wild asked them about "Blue Eyed Soul" Daryl said he hates the term because there was something overtly racist about it. He described soul as a feeling not a color.

I agree with his statement. I consider Daryl a great "soul singer", not a great "white soul singer".

I'm a little sensitive to the colors put on music too. I'm Indian, and a jazz singer. When I went to a jazz workshop a couple of years ago, I heard some people say, "Oooh, I've never heard an Indian sing jazz before! I wonder what that sounds like." I was VERY weirded out by that. My ethnicity has nothing to do with the sound of my voice, or the soul I put into it.

Dan Hartman, particularly for "I Can Dream About You."

To this day lots of people don't realize the song was sung by a white man. Too bad the alternate video...

...that actually features Dan was rarely shown. Many believe the group lipsynching to the song in the main video, lifted from a scene in the movie "Streets Of Fire," are the actual artists.

That's right! I remember that now. Stoney Jackson, I think, was one of the actors. Diane Lane was great in that, but everyone else, including Michael Pare was window-dressing.

Dan Hartman...nice pic.
