No need to be confused. I love sluts and hookers and whores and thangs. In other words, anything "bad", I love....that's why I love the title.

When it comes to music, a "beautiful" song is usually one that's slow that your grandmother would probably call a "pretty song". Those are the kind of ballads I hate. I like the sexy slow jams that have a "sleep with a stranger at 2 a.m." type aurra to them. The kind that your grandmother would hate. lol

How do you guys feel about her 1974 album 'Lady Of The Night'?

Lady Of The Night
Born To Die
Friends
Domino
The Hostage
Wounded
Little Miss Fit
Let's Work Together Now
Sing Along (Sad Song)

It was originally released in Holland in 1974,a year before her American debut album 'Love To Love You Baby'.The album is nothing like the disco/pop stuff she became famous for.I guess the songs could best be described as folk/soft rock, not unlike the stuff that Cher was doing around this time. The original version of this album contained the track "Full Of Emptiness",which made it onto the 'Love To Love You Baby' album. The tracklist posted above is from the 1995 reissue CD.

lol it's funny how she has done several songs with a prostitution theme. In addition to "Lady Of The Night",there is "Black Lady" (from the 'I Remember Yesterday' album) and of course,"Bad Girls".Back then, she had a weird obsession with hookers, lol.

Just be sure you stay away from these CDs!

Dreadful,dreadful stuff disbelief

In the early 70s,Donna was a part of some obscure band and they recorded an album that was released in 1972.The songs are horrible and on most of them, you can't even really hear Donna. She didn't sing lead on most tracks. After she became famous, this album started popping up everywhere and I heard she was really pissed about it.It's marketed as a Donna Summer album, yet she was really just a backup singer in this group. To make matters worse,in the mid-80s they actually remixed these songs, trying to make them sound cool and hip! There are literally dozens of these CDs on the market, containing the same awful tracks but with different CD covers. The CDs are usually titled after one of the songs on the album...'Nice To See You'....'Back Off Boogaloo'....'Fun Street'....etc.I like the idea of hearing rare music from an artist before they hit the big time, but these CDs are not the least bit interesting. The songs are unbelievably bad. Here is the tracklist for this album:

Fun Street
Little Marie
Shout It Out
They Can't Take Away Our Music
Back Off Boogaloo
Jeannie
Nice To See You
Na Na Hey Hey
Do What Mother Do

If you ever have a party and you can't seem to get the last few guests to leave, just play this CD real loud lol I guarantee that they will rush out the door! One of the worst albums in pop music history.

so you don't like it? lol

The other songs on the album are more folk-ish.Except for "The Hostage" which is definitely more mainstream pop.

Not at all disbelief

I don`t think i`d like the album either hmmm

When it comes to Donna Summer, i prefer the ballads. Of course the disco hits are wonderful, but her voice is PERFECT for ballads.

I`m sure you`d hate it, but i wish she could have recorded an album of covers, love songs, like Diana Ross` "I love you"... pray

She also said that,in the early 80s,the two of them were gonna record some duets together.Sadly,it never happened and he died in 1984.

I think their voises would have sounded good together cloud9

Too bad it didn`t happen, i really think the album could have been a success had they found the right material.

I agree, her voice is perfect for ballads.Too bad the record-buying public didn't agree. She has released several ballads as singles and they all flopped:

***"Winter Melody" (1976)
***"Can't We Just Sit Down (And Talk It Over)"(1977)---alot of people don't know that this was actually the first single from her 'I Remember Yesterday' album! Radio completely ignored this song. They flipped it over and played the B-side ("I Feel Love") instead.
***"The Woman In Me" (1982)
***"Love Has A Mind Of It's Own" (1983)
***"Only The Fool Survives" (1987)
***"The Power Of One" (from 'Pokemon 2') (2000)

neutral I think the "Queen of Disco" label may have hurt her chances of being accepted as a versatile artist who could do ballads as well as uptempo stuff

That`s true nod

I`m suprised she hasn`t recorded a country album.... Does she still live in Tennessee?

Have you seen this clip from VH1`s save the music? http://www.youtube.com/wa...h6DiQgTQsI

That`s what i would like to hear!

We'll see if it actually materializes lol Donna has a long history of starting an album, getting the fans anxious and excited, then abandoning the project altogether rolleyes Who knows if things will be different this time around?

Agreed.I've always been mad at her for not doing duets with truly talented, soulful male artists.Imagine if she had done songs with guys like Jeffrey Osborne,Stevie Wonder or James Ingram. The results could have been amazing.

It's a cool album unlike just about everything she did after. It was very much what was happening at the time, I guess. It would've been nice if it would've included "Virgin Mary" (which sounds just like these songs). I have no idea why that wasn't included...was it before this or after? I think it's only on one of her "Greatest Hits" albums (I have it...it's from 1977 and goes as far as the "I Remember Yesterday" album).

I always felt that "Cats Without Claws" was about hookers, too.

That was intersting to see all of Donna's ballads just typed out and to see that they all underperformed (even to an extent "Woman In Me", which was a hit but not a big one and is consistently ignored on US hits collections). "The Power Of One" only made some impact because it scored as a dance remix (and the remixes sounded pretty good but weren't all that innovative)

The song "Virgin Mary" isn't included on the album because it was recorded in 1975,months after the 'Lady Of The Night' album was released. However,it should have been included on the CD reissue as a bonus track.Like you say,it is similiar to the other songs.I have "Virgin Mary" on that 1977 Greatest Hits album you mentioned.I don't think it's such an outstanding song.

I like it. It gets stuck in my head quite a bit. I hope she gets a proper boxed set one day and it includes this track and other rarities, including her few non album b-sides, which I think were from the Geffen era..."Tearin' Down the Wall", "Sometimes Like Butterflies"...there was another one....but what was it? I want to say "Face The Music" unless that was by an artist that sounded like Donna.

Very preachy....most of that album was expect for some standout tracks like "I'm Free". Should've been a single.
