This Crooked Mile In a virtual sea of myspace bands, it takes a lot to stand out. And music stamped "Intelligent and Emotional alt/pop/rock" admittedly doesn't get my sensors blinking. So imagine my surprise when I chanced upon a large, rather ordinary-looking clan from Toronto. They call themselves This Crooked Mile and while their tunes sound of a band whose influences are on their sleeve, they do have one gem of a tune that deserves to be heard called "Promise." It's driving, melancholic acoustic rock. I'm a sucker for good hooks and strong instruments and they take me back to a sound that is missed. They successfully channel what was good about '90s alternative jam and pepper it with hymn-like vocals and rich trumpets. Worth a listen. | |
