this soul train episode rocked! i was in pure heaven. first of all grandmaster flash and the furious five's performance was interesting. what were they doing in the back ground? it seemed like some weird performance art. i love them though, they rock! evelyn king was seriously styling in that shiny gold unitard. talk about being a true rock star. artists today just aren't cutting it in comparison to how they were in the 80's.

I saw this episode too lol How cool was it to hear Prince's "Lady Cab Driver" and MJ's "P.Y.T." during the line dance segment?

And that flashback footage of Sylvia singing "Pillow Talk" in 1973!! WOW!

Next episode is from late 1984 and features Donna Summer and the Staple Singers.

It was "Fall In Love With Me" by Earth Wind and Fire. That was the first single from their 'Powerlight' album.

I noticed that most of the songs on this episode are from late 82.This episode was probably taped in late December 1982.

they aired the show this time in minneapolis! woot!

i was trying my damndest not to crack up laughing at evelyn king's outfit (s-curl, shiny suit and geordi laforge nu-wave glasses giggle)...i was surprised they busted out with "lcd". they bust out with "fall in love with me" and i was groovin, but they cut it short. pout

can't wait for the next episode, it looks like a good one.

That's how we got mixed up in the other thread, because they featured Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" which came out in the summer of 1982. Judging by the songs they played in that episode, "The Message" was already old and out of style (we didn't drag shit out for years like they do now lol ), "Survival (The Message II)", which was the second song they performed was brand new at the time. Evelyn had already dropped her first single from the show, "Love Come Down", and did two more recent songs.

The show was great and I love the way Evelyn King dances. That bitch dances the way I do. lol

I love their outfits. Rappers didn't dress like average ordinary thug trash back then. They dressed like stars.....wild and outrageous.....the way stars should be. Evelyn's outfit was great too....plenty of shine and flash, just the way I like things. Wild and loose dammitt!

What? They didn't air the home improvement show this week? I know you are disappointed about that....and you stayed up so late to watch it. lol

I meant to tell you last week that with no "Soul Train", you may not learn to shake your ass on the dance floor, but with the home improvement show, you might learn how to build one. lol

I did some research and found out that this episode originally aired on May 21,1983 confuse By then,"Betcha She Don't Love You" was an old song, indeed. As I recall,it was a single during the fall of '82.I think it's likely that this particular show was taped months before it actually aired. In early 83,Don Cornelius had brain surgery so they weren't able to tape any new episodes for a few months. From January to April, they just showed reruns. Here's an episode guide of all the Soul Train episodes, which I find quite interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...n_episodes

Looks like this week's episode (with Donna Summer and the Staple Singers) originally aired in late December 1984.
