She does have a tendency to oversing, but when people said this about Mariah in the beginning, she started doing all that whispering stuff. I'd rather her over-sing than try to restrain such a powerful set of pipes. I remember when she did "Reflection" for the Mulan Soundtrack....still one of my favorite songs from her; great vocal range. I like that she's grown as an artist, musically and visually. The first time I saw her I was amazed at how tiny she was...little girl with a huge voice. I'll take her over any of the other ones any day.

aside from live tv performances, i've never seen her sing in person. from what i've seen on tv, though, i wouldn't say she oversings anything. mary j oversings. christina just sangs. her performance of its a mans world was out of this world. that's really what sold me on the show.

hmmm I'd actually say exactly the opposite. Mary J. screams at times, but I think she knows when to be restrained and when to get raw. OTOH, Christina = oversinging in my book. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I always get the feeling she tries too hard -- almost like she's auditioning for American Idol ("Ooh, look at all the notes I can hit!"). I didn't like "It's a Man's World" much at all. She didn't sound bad, but I think she just sang it like some kind of vocal workout as opposed to the touching and stirring ode to women from James. The meaning of the song is supposed to resonate with the listener and IMO it didn't.

actully i think the people on American Idol are trying to sing like her. AI started after she released Lady Marmalade.

my spelling sucks today!!

BTW, does anyone know if that performance is somewhere on the net to watch?
