I remember seeing her on Soul Train, singing that song lol In the summer of '82.She was on fire during that summer! Her previous hit "Love Come Down" was huge and then she followed it up with another big hit "Betcha She Don't Love You".

Let's try to guess what other songs we will hear on this episode...

"You Dropped A Bomb On Me" by Gap Band
"So Fine" by Howard Johnson
"Hard To Get" by Rick James
"Love Is In Control" by Donna Summer

Are you sure "High Rise" was out in the summer of '82? I think that song is actually from 1983.

In the summer of '82,Ashford and Simpson had the hit "Street Corner" music

on any street....any street corner...on any street....any street corner

Is that one kinda midtempo? I think I have that one on a 12 Inch, or maybe it's one called "Walk On By" or something. Hell, I don't know because I never listen to the A Side. I strictly bought the 12 Inch for the B Side called "D Train", which is a very uptempo funky ass track....."get up on the funky D Train".....it's the dub version though but it absolutely slams.

Oh, I definately know about "Street Corner". I like to play it together with all my favorite hooker songs.....

Working Girl - Cheri
Street Corner - Ashford and Simpson
Bad Girls - Donna Summer
She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer
What People Do For Money - Divine Sounds
Lady Marmalade - LaBelle
P.I.M.P. the S.I.M.P. - Rick James
Sexy Lady - Rick James
Money Talks - Rick James

Now we've taken the thread way off in another direction. lol Anyway, I remember hearing "High Rise" around the same time as "Street Corner". I think it's from the same album.

Donna made the video about a waitress. However, I was around in the days before music videos when you had to visualize a song in your head when you heard it. I visualize a hooker. lol

Especially since she had done "Bad Girls" earlier in her career. I remember when "Love Is In Control" came out and the magazines were saying she had become a born again Christian. The next year when "She Works Hard For The Money" came out, I said...."That bitch ain't no Christian"....later I saw the video. lol

I remember seeing her in concert back in 1984. She opened for
the Barkays,Kool & the Gang. Was late getting to the show and she
was already performing this song. It sounds much better live. Of course,
as always she brought down the house with love come down. I will enjoy
watching her on soul train tomorrow.

what's funny about "Love Is In Control" is,when I first heard it,I thought "Here she goes again with another prostitution song!" I misheard the first verse...

I guess I missed the target...caught up in a DIFFERENT NINE TO FIVE

falloff she's really saying "a different line of fire"

It was apparently taped in late 82.They played mostly songs that were from the winter of 82..."I'm Freaky" by Obryan,"Too Tough" by Angela Bofill, etc.

I can't believe they played Prince's "Lady Cab Driver" headbang
