I'd say he's really very good (has incredible tone & feel), but I'm not sure he's distinguished his style of playing from Stevie Ray Vaughn's quite yet, though his music is a bit more jazzy on the whole. My Legacy

I haven't really listened to anything by him but I saw his perfomance on the grammies and liked it. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

John Mayer was the best thing from that snoozefest set. I like the way he plays but all the while he was singing I kept wishing Jonny Lang would stroll out on the stage and grab the mic away from his ass ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That thing that sounds kinda off is called John Legend's voice. And I so wanted to like him. Anyway, John Mayer has skills. As a songwriter and a guitar player. His guitar skills actually reminds me of Prince, but only the sense that it's really underrated on record, but when you see him live, damn he can play. But he does look crazy as hell when he sings. "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

I can see the comparison with Prince in reference to his guitar playing. John Mayers solo was beautiful... if prince would have dropped that this place would be going crazy round about now. Definately gonna check out some albums by this guy.

I'm not a big Mayer fan, but some people just can't stand it when a white guy actually knows how to sing and play guitar. Open your mind and your ears.

The thing that gets me about that performance is no one noticed how "flat and off-key" that Corrine Bailey is. This is the 3rd or fourth time i have seen her sing live and theres nothing to her voice, it just seems to lay there. As for Mayer, with the last two albums (Trio, and the latest one) i have noticed more of his talent, i wasnt crazy about his early days of TRL music, early on he seemed to be the "Safe" Ryan Adams, but he is starting to emerge as an artist, not there yet but getting there. I like both Mayer & Adams and have pretty much everything they've released until now (although, with Adams you never can be sure....).....they are definitely NOT alike, I'm very surprised this comparison even comes up..... [Edited 2/14/07 9:39am]

He doesn't move me one way or another. Though I Do love his take on his fame. He has a great sense of humor. He seems very down to earth and honest. Christian Zombie Vampires

[Edited 2/14/07 9:39am] It was coming up alot when "GOLD" by Ryan Adams came out and MTV/VH1 were actually playing him, John Mayer broke through at the same time, even though Ryan has been around a decade more than Mayer, the comparisons started. I never knew why it existed since they are very different, the media saw 2 guys that played guitar and of course said they were the same. And obviously as the years past we clearly see they are very different artists. I never knew why it existed since they are very different, the media saw 2 guys that played guitar and of course said they were the same. And obviously as the years past we clearly see they are very different artists. Both artists are not considered 'popular artists' over here (Europe), so they hardly get any airplay on the radio or MTV..... Still, whenever they're on tour, they sell out the venues they're playing like that..... Neither Mayer or Adams ever had a hit here in the Netherlands, still they both have a vivid following here. This alone already says that both must have skills, and this is to me the only thing they have in common. Adams clearly has an alt-country/folk background (just listen to his early stuff with Whiskytown), whereas, to me, Mayer clearly is more bluesy or even jazzy..... The Grammy-performance, Legend and Bailey were lame, Mayer nailed it.....and yes, I had to think of Prince when I saw/heard the solo he gave away.....even some gestures he made with his hand while playing. I am pretty sure Prince enjoyed it as well in the audience, since he's the one who keeps on going about 'real music by real musicians' lately.....Mayer definitely is a real musician! And he's banging Jessica Simpson!
