CD Find Of The Day

It's crazy the things you run across while looking for something else...

...Florida Funk: 1968-1975

This is a compilation disc consisting of cuts from relatively unknown Florida Funk bands.
One of the tunes (All The Time - Bobby Williams) is by an Orlando artist I auditioned for when I lived there in the early 70s.

The Montereys (Get Down) were a popular act (correction: out of Tampa) during that time period.

More well known names like Little Beaver (Everybody Has Some Dues to Pay) & Blowfly (Butterfly Theme) are also included.

Then there's the classic Baby Don't Cry by Third Guitar
And how could you ignore a group with the name The Mighty Dogcatchers (It's Gonna Be A Mess).

But the stunner for me was seeing the tune Spider Web by the Gainesville based Weston Prim & Blacklash on the disc.
They were good friends of mine when I lived there.
Their guitarist eventually quit Blacklash to start a group with myself and current musical partner Longineu Parsons.

Yeah, Baby Don't Cry is starting to pop up everywhere. smile

It's sort of a shame that the Weston Prim & Blacklash cut is an instrumental.
Wes was a great singer fronting that funky horn band.
He physically reminded me of Baby Huey (the singer). Big fro, big bodied brother. fro

Note: Have to contribute another set for "The Lounge".

Neil,

I was going to .orgnote this to you, but the damn .org bug is acting up.

That EXACT cd was "Programmer's Pick of the Week" at this community radio station I listen to last Friday.

The station is KRCL and you can stream it at www.krcl.org

Fridays are all classic R&B...some parts of the day, the song has to be at least 30 years old to be played.

Just thought you might like to listen.

Looks like some good stuff.

A couple of those are available from the same folks that put out the Florida disc.

Leave it to the Brits to chronicle the musical history we cavalierly discard.
