The Bar-Kays: "Propositions" (1982). I never was the greatest fan of their albums because I felt they had too much filler, but "Propositions" has less than most of the others. The album featured arguably my favorite song by them -- "Do It (Let Me See You Shake)" -- plus "She Talks to Me with Her Body," the title track, the old-school ballad "Anticipation" and the grooving "You Made A Change In My Life."
"Commodores" (1977). "Hot on the Tracks" gets consideration, but it's hard to beat an album that has the classic soul songs "Brick House," "Easy" and "Zoom." This was the album, IMO, that helped make The Commodores a household name and established them as a major player in soul music. Slave: "Stone Jam" (1980). The fact it has one of my all-time favorite songs on it ("Watching You") makes this a cakewalk, but the album has other songs that defined the Slave sound -- the title track, "Let's Spend Some Time," "Sizzlin' Hot" and "Feel My Love" are non-stop grooving throwdowns that push it over the top. "Graham Central Station" (1973). *Yawn* I'm almost picking by rote, because I was not a GCS fan -- I felt Larry Graham's band sounded too much like some cross between Sly & The Family Stone and Tower of Power with some over-the-top P-Funk stylings. "Hair" and "It Ain't No Fun to Me" are the highlights for this set. [Edited 2/10/07 22:05pm] THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Hot On The Tracks
(is the only one I've heard of The Commodores) Just A Touch (only one I have of Slave) and... drumroll please My Radio Sure Sounds Good To Me (GCS) *I don't own any Bar-Kays [Edited 2/10/07 18:38pm] because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

It's hard but i am gonna try anyway.
Barkays- Night Cruising and Propositions Commodores-Caught in the Act and Hot on the Tracks Slave-Showtime GCS- Not a big fan of graham central station. I would not even list them among the best funk bands. They are not even close to the barkays, commodores, or slave. Nevertheless; the pick here is Mirror. Don't laugh at my funk

Vainandy, wherefore art thou when we need you? There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

It sounds like you're a little surprised about "Propositions" being chosen. Share with me your thoughts. Propositions and Night Cruisin just seemed to be deeper albums. My favorite 70's barkays track is holy ghost bar none. Also like you can't run away from flying high on your love. Don't laugh at my funk

Bar Kays - Night Cruisin' (With "Hit n' Run" and "Freaky Behaviour"
Commodores - Commodores ("Brick House", "Zoom", and "Easy"..what else can needs to be said) Slave - Showtime (Can't beat "Party Lights" and "Wait for Me") GCS - Now Do U Wanna Dance (even though Ain't No 'Bout-A-Doubt It is a close second because "Your Love" is one of my favorites from them) "Always blessings, never losses......"

The Barkays: Nightcruising
The Commodores: I don't have any of their albums other than the live one. The only other thing I have is a greatest hits compilation. Slave: Stone Jam Graham Central Station: I would have to pull it from my stacks to get the name of it. I think the title is "Now Do U Want To Dance". It includes the song "Earthquake". Andy is a four letter word.

Barkays - Too Hot to Stop (title track, Shake Your Rump and instrumental Whitehouseorgy pace this wicked offering)
Commodores - Movin' On (Sweet Love, underrated classic jam Gimme My Mule, instrumental Cebu and more!) Slave - Hardness of the World (Volcano Rupture, Baby Sinister, etc.) GCS - Ain't No Bout a Doubt It (Water AND The Jam, are you kidding me?!) Peace, Scott If you've got funk, you've got style.

Some interesting picks here boys 'n' girls. I've never really been a fan of Now Do Ya Wanta Dance. Always considered it GCS's weakest album. How knows, it might grow on me, but I'm not really feelin' it just yet It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

No, I like most of The Bar-Kays' albums in the 1970s and '80s. I felt a lot of them had filler tracks, and "Propositions" didn't have the filler some of them did. bobsteezy said: Slave is Showtime for sure with me.
