For Steely Dan fans-need your help I'd downloaded "Reelin' in the Years" on Itunes. But can anyone recommend any other songs? "I ordered no broth! Away with ye lest my cane find your backside!!"- Ralph Wiggum, Actor.

If you dig that track then I recommend the album that song is from: "Can't buy a thrill". It's their first album (1972) and all songs are killer. If you like that album then continue with their next (Countdown to ecstasy) and so on... You absolutely can't go wrong with any of their 70's albums! btw the collection called "citizen steely dan" has every song from those 70's albums Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

I've heard some other songs on XM but had forgotten the titles. I regret not listening to them when I was younger but better late than never. "I ordered no broth! I haven't come across any... but I haven't really looked out for any either. There weren't any live albums officialy released AFAIK. They're known for being a studio group. Didn't really tour at all after their first couple of albums until the 2000's when they made a live dvd "two against nature". I'm awaiting my chance to see them live! btw you'll make it "aja" soon...it is their sixth album of the 70's if you journey through sequentially Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

Alive in America... ...is a mixture of '93-'94 live performances. There are quite a few bootlegs out there of '74, '75, '78, '91-'95 performances. The Two Against Nature DVD... ...is the best sounding live chronicle thus far. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Anything from one of their greatest hits packages--A Decade of Steely Dan, etc is worth having. If you want to go deeper, I say get these albums:

I think that one is a great place to start. Absorb those songs and work your way back from there!

I think that one is a great place to start. Absorb those songs and work your way back from there! And actually, Aja excepted, I tend to think of SD as more of a "songs" band than an an "albums" band, so I don't think you're ruining the albums by taking the songs out of context. My Legacy

Good advice from everybody. Thanks. I think I will start with "A Decade of Steely Dan" and take it from there. I'm also looking forward to watching that DVD! "I ordered no broth! Away with ye lest my cane find your backside!!"- Ralph Wiggum, Actor.

All the Steely Dan albums are good...
...My personal preference lies with the second half of their output. While you're at it... ...don't ignore the Donald Fagen solo trilogy. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."
