Given their jazz background, I believe you are right....

I have seen Sting in concert several times and nothing is 'by the numbers' with him...

Unfortunately, I see no Atlanta stop on their tour thus far...perhaps this calls for a trip to NYC... hmmm

cool

I may have to go to Sin City (Vegas). neutral

hmmm Tempting.

However, in that locale, the temptation of reverting back to old habits looms large...stoned

lol practice! Someone commented that the middle part would have been fine 2 hours into a concert, but not for their one big song at the Grammys, and I totally agree.

And about your above comment about bass, I guess you're right, Sting switched to guitar for Blue Turtles. And also about the others wanting more creative involvement. Stewart Copeland has become a successful soundtrack composer.
[Edited 2/13/07 10:25am]

Yeah I hadn't followed Stewie so much, but he's done a lot of composing in non-popular, non-consumer music media and a renowned teacher doing drum clinics, plus his involvement with Oysterhead was a major achievement.

We can trace all the hoo-hah of "he said, he said" press at the time of the break-up, but it appears all three had some music maturing to do.

I'm kinda stoked about the tour, but I dread the cost of these big arena shows on the circuit. The Best Buy sponsorship is pretty damn irritating. I hate being a "club member".

.

.

Here are direct quotes from Sting & Stewie that confirms my assertion:

Playing down questions about their well documented disagreements and arguments, Sting added: "The nature of the arguments were all about music... also hairstyles". Stewart adding "We never hated each other. We fought tooth and nails over the music, but as human beings, we always liked each other."

I'll venture to say that "fighting tooth and nails" brought out the best in the band, in terms of music.

I'm trying to keep it a secret from my wife that they are actually touring because she'll make me buy tickets (and I'm trying to save up for 3121).

I don't care where I have to go to see them, I'm gonna be there...LA, LV, NY. I think it will be worth it. I had hoped for a medley at the Grammys, but that's ok. It was a major moment just seeing them all together.

I thinking that if we hold off, they may add dates to the schedule....

I really liked the middle section of the song - I don't know how they've performed this in the part, but this sounded new.

Roxanne is probably the song I've heard in the most diverse versions. From the original to Sting's various updates (with hip-hop, jazz, acoustic etc.), to the supreme Moulin Rouge version, to George Michael's laid-back nighttime-driving version. And it always sounds like a great song no matter how it's done.
