new BLOC PARTY? Thoughts? Personally I love it. And there are 12 b-sides floating about on various editions of the CD. Anybody else listening to this? The b-sides rock, and the album itself is fantastic.

I really don't like it, listened to it a few times and deleted it. It's too overproduced, lacks that gritty paranoid sound that made the first one unique.
Altho I hadn't noticed the song about the two guys, might have to go give that one another listen..

Thanks I am going to be doing weekly music reviews for the NBC TV website's entertainment page here in the Washington DC area (The DC Scene). Bloc Party was my first one. I need to figure out what i'm going to do for this week....! But no, I'm not a professional journalist, its just something fun to do on the side I'm excited about it cuz that site gets alot of page hits, and it's NBC which is kinda cool.

I don't like it as well as "silent alarm" but i do think there are some really strong tunes on it. 2 or 3 really good singles, i'd say.

i saw them open for The Pixies and they were amazing even in a terrible out-doors venue in the middle of Summer in the steaming heat, heh. It was sooooo hot. Poor Kele sweated his ass off, but they sounded amazing.

This is an ablum that opens up the more you listen to it. I like it equally as much as Silent Alarm. Standouts include:
ON Uniform Waiting for the 7:18 Disappear Here Hunting for Witches Kreuzberg Where is Home? It not as raw as Silent Alarm, but its good in its own right. Much more textured and emotional. Whereas SA was more politically focused, Weekend..seems focus on the effect that the political climate has on the individual: "I was an ordinary man w/ ordinary desires I watched tv it informed me" from Huniting For Witches comes to mind. If Silent Alarm was an analysis of the System, Weekend is an analysis of the Individual. The more melodic nature of the music helps to bring out the humanity of the lyrics. This album has been on constant repeat for a few days now, and I m still hearing nuances that I missed. To me, this is a huge step forward in their evolution. The Best Buy version has 2 additional tracks that really really good(Emma Kates Accident, Version2.0). Id love to hear the bonus songs on the import version. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

I'm still digesting this album, but what I have heard so far, I've really enjoyed. I really liked "Silent Alarm", and so far I have no complaints about "Weekend in the City", either. What I find really exciting about the album is that I think they will be one of those bands that continues to evolve with each new album.
Plus, in addition to the usual influences, I think I've heard nods to Yaz and 'Remain in Light'-era Talking Heads in their music, which I love. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

The beginning of 'Hunting For Witches' reminds me a lot of "I Before E Except After C" from 'Upstairs at Eric's'. 'The Once and Future King' and 'Secrets' are both yes indeed. Not bad for a Monday @ work, eh? "England" is really good, too. "Two MOre Years" was released as a single, but it fits in nicely w/the rest of these tunes as well. [Edited 2/12/07 13:19pm] A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.
