If it's your first time they should blow you away. Those who saw them at their 70s peak may be more critical. hehe

Well you'll see Billy Bass, Gary Shider, Blackbyrd McKnight, Kidd Funkadelic Mike Hampton and of course George so you get good cast list.

Fuzzy Haskins etc tour as "The Real P".

If they play the time of set all saw last week you will be blown away. P-Funk is on fire now. I've seen over 50 shows since the seventies. Trust me on this regardless of what anyone may tell you they play and perform just as hard or at times even harder than they did in the past. Their is alot of new blood in the P-Funk. Wait till you get aload of Eric McFadden he plays the mandolin.

Spin off group is called Original P this consist of Fuzzy Haskins, Grady Thomas, and Ray Davis. They are original P-Funk vocalists and also tour under the corporate name Parliament/Funkadelic as well so be careful of who you choose to see. Both bands are good but George has all the "real" P-Funk players while it's only the three of OP with a cover band. All though OP is disgruntled members it's all cool cause it's Family Funk.

Just this past Saturday
at the "Stone(d) Soul Picnic"
at RFK Stadium
in DC
a group called
"Parliament"
did a 50-minute set of the group's "classic" hits.

I've been a P-Funk fan since I was a child in the mid-70s, & when I saw that "Parliament" would be performing, I figured that this meant I'd see George Clinton, et al..

This was not the case.

If you're at all familiar with this whole P-Funk "saga" then you probably know that in the early 80s Clinton had a falling out with many of his bandmates- in addition to other legal & drug problems he was having at the time..

1 of the results of this falling out was an album done by "Funkadelic"- which was essentially the 3 main P-Funk back-up singers: Grady Thomas, Ray Davis & Fuzzy Haskins. This album was called "Connections & Disconnections" & these singers made it a point to note on the back of the album that this record had NO contributions whatsoever by Clinton. Not surprisingly, the record was mediocre funk at best, & this was also reflected by the minimal record sales.

Saying all that to say this:
The group I saw Saturday was essentially the P-Funk back-up singers plus a few other "disgruntled" former P-Funk alumni. It's always great to here P-Funk music live; plus, I really liked the fact that, unlike the last "Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars" I've seen.. "Parliament" did more "structed" songs, it wasn't just "jamming" like Clinton tends to do nowadays..

That said, I associate Clinton with Parliament & Funkadelic too strongly. Like him or not, for better or worse..
George Clinton
IS
Parliament-Funkadelic.
Always has been, always will be.
So while it was great to hear "Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On (which I'd never heard live before)
it's still not the same thing.

FYI:
"George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars" will be in DC in mid-September..
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Correction this lp was done by Grady Thomas , Calvin Simon and Fuzzy Haskins. Ray choose to stay on with George and got paid. There are no other former P-Funkers in Original P with the exception of the three Ray, Grady and Fuzzy. Calvin no longer tours with the group. All performing band members never appeared on any existing Parliament/Funkadelic record with the exception of the four vocalists.
