A Hidden Soul Gem: Lorraine Ellison "Stay With Me" Yet another great soul shouter that never got proper recognition. Give it up for Lorraine Ellison!
Best known for her debut ballad "Stay With Me," Lorraine Ellison could easily compete with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Fontella Bass and Patti LaBelle. Unfortunately, due to a progressing sickness and a complete lack of interest on behalf of her label, Ellison was never given a chance to really prove herself to the world. She has released three singles under Warner Bros and only with "Stay With Me" did she a have a real hit. But what a song it is! Lorraine Ellison "Stay With Me" A throbbing cry for love, "Stay With Me" showcases not only Ellison's vocal mastery (clear influence of Mahalia , Dinah and Patti), but also her complete emotional engagement into performance. Enriched by the simple, yet heart-felt lyrics and a sweeping orchestral background, "Stay With Me" rings with intensity that, at times, is simply too much to bare. You should definitely check out this track, if you like songs like "Ain't No Way" or "I've Been Loving You For Too Long." You can find it on a unique three-disk compilation of Lorraine's hits plus unreleased demos that testify to the genius of this superb artist. Lorraine Ellison - Sister Love: The Warner Bros. Another great R&B artist that...
...Jerry Ragovoy wrote and produced for (including Stay With Me). Other tracks on this comp generally associated with other artists and written by Jerry Ragovoy are Try (Janis Joplin) and Time Is On My Side (Rolling Stones). tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. He also co-wrote Erma Franklin's "Piece of My Heart." Again, what an anthem. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt. | |
