Whatever their motive, it is intended to mark Brown's death. So, it's a memorial. "It's a Man's World" being performed by a brother who has spent the past two decades trying to look like a white woman would be fodder for cruel jokes.

The Academy, for all its flaws, should know better.

Christina Aguilera is still a worse choice. At least JB was a huge and direct influence on MJ. (Of course, "It's a Man's World" wouldn't be in my top 10 choices for a tribute to JB.)

Granted. It's wrong-headed, no matter how you look at it: A James Brown tribute should've been handled much differently. It looks to me like they totally forgot about Brown's death and did a last-minute arrangement with Aguilera.

So many other people would've done a better job. Even MJ could've worked on a different song (just not "Say It Loud..."). Actually, MJ kind of goes against the grain of most JB songs that come to mind, regardless of the obvious influence...

Oh, I'm sure she'll sound fine; she usually does. I just don't think she can convincingly convey the message of the song, so I don't think it will be a fitting tribute. I have a feeling it'll sound like she's just singing words on a page.

anyone else been to a Police picnic? biggrin headbang hug

I was so glad when I heard that the Police were opening the show. That's all I am watching and then I am turning. I cannot bear to sit through another award show waiting for one or two talented acts to perform. These shows have become a testament to everything that is wrong with the "music" industry. So I thank the Grammys for sparing me.

I'll check out Andy, Stewart and Sting, then call it a night. wink
