This years grammy's shaping up to be the biggest mess yet Well first of all it doesnt look like Prince will be there or added as a last minute performer, and for good reason, this show is shaping up to be the worst yet, usually the grammies if nothing else gives us a handful of good performances, not this year. Added to the BIG lineup of performers today were Chris Brown, Ludacris and Lionel Richie, can it get any better. Im sure The Police are glad they are opening this way they can leave before this mess starts. What makes me really worry about this show is what the "BIG" draw is, one time duets between Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts, WOW you're kidding, i've dreamt of them dueting WOW! And of course the Grammies rating are so low the last few years, almost as low as the AMA's, this year they are having an "AMERICAN IDOL" like vote to make one unknown person get a one time duet with Justin Timberlake, yet another moment i have dreamed of. But as usual i will tape this show and then ffwd through 90% of it. Though the moment i was hoping for the BEYONCE/SHAKIRA duet isnt going to happen, now they will perform on their own, though i was hoping for the Moment when BEYONCE would be screaming a note that SHAKIRA would give her a Hip and knock her into the audience, but of course that wont happen now. I think the best remark about this years grammies came from that guy Michael Buble when they asked him about going to the show he said, "Im not going to the Fucking grammies, Im up against Fucking Tony Bennet, I cant Fucking win, and anyway they Give that award out 2 days earlier at a fucking dinner so who gives a shit", wow thats the first good thing to come out of this guys mouth ever. Yeah there are going to be a lot of mishaps, but I think it'll be an OK show this year. Mind you though, Grammy Awards aren't what they used to be! Check me out and add me on:

They approached Michael Jackson to sing a cover of "It's a Man's World" in tribute of JB. He declined. But no reason was given. I think he just didn't want to get involved with the Grammies this year and he saw their "offer" as a way of using JB's passing to get ratings, and he definately didn't want to be a part of that. Because we all know the Grammies didn't give a shit about JB before last christmas. They are just cashing in on his death. What makes it worse is that after MJ declined, they asked Christina Aguilera to do it. That's sucks the wang. What BS! They should've just scrapped the JB tribute after MJ declined instead of going for any old contemporary artist who wouldn't even know (or care) who the mofo even is. WHY? Couldn't the Grammys get Prince or even P-funk together to do a all-stars tribute to the Godfather. Xtina (even though she did outdo herself with her latest album) really doesn't have that much soul, so I wonder how she's going to play that off tomorrow night. [Edited 2/10/07 14:55pm] I agree, though i like Christina she cant and wont pull this off. I understand how maybe the Grammies wants a someone very modern to do it, but i totally agree on the lack of soul. She has a great voice but James wasnt about Vocals he was about soul. If they wanted to get young artists to pull this off since for some reason the grammies think that 18 year olds tune into it. I would have gotten people like Musiq Soulchild,Alicia Keys,Joss Stone,Van Hunt etc..that whether you like them or not they have a bit more soul than christina does. She does not fair well when doing tributes, she butchered "Bennie and Jets" when she dueted with Elton so if she couldnt pull that off, this could be really bad. I just think that she is gonna turn this into "Vocal gymnastics" once again, and really, we know you have a good voice stop beating us to death with it. Well they have tons more soul than Christina does, it just doesnt make sense getting Christina, and im sure the grammies will take alot of heat for the choice. To me it makes no sense, just based on how she sings, her vocals shine in ballads, and James was not really a ballad guy, and im sure thats not what they will focus on, im sure we will Feel good and Sex Machine. Getting Christina to do this tribute makes about as much sense as Getting Cassie to do a tribute to Minnie Riperton at the Apollo theater. It's just the Grammy's way of boosting their ratings. When JB died they asked, "James who?" Anyway, don't forget who was one of the only big names to actually attend the real memorial.

Whatever their motive, it is intended to mark Brown's death. So, it's a memorial. "It's a Man's World" being performed by a brother who has spent the past two decades trying to look like a white woman would be fodder for cruel jokes. The Academy, for all its flaws, should know better.

I bet the first person they thought of for the JB tribute was MJ. MJ would be the only performer JB would want to perform in tribute to him. So fuck the "cruel jokes". The relationship JB and MJ had goes way beyong any "white woman" jokes. As JB said, "they always g after the ones with talent". So media bashing meant nothing to them. MJ turned up to JB's memorial service, knowing that the media would try to pick it apart, analyse it, and somehow make it out to be someting "bizarre". But he didn't care, he knew he needed to be there. Same goes for the Grammy tribute. If MJ felt it was a genuine tribute, and they weren't trying to cash in on JB's death, he'd do it despite what he tought the media or the late night talk show hosts would say about it.

I'd see Prince or Sananda do it before MJ, if it were mine to select. Little Michael Jackson did a dead-on James Brown (no pun intended). I don't think, all these years and changes later, MJ evokes JB nearly as much. Prince, on the other hand, has been pulling out songs from the JB style quite consistently.
