I just added that album to my collection. They're one of those groups that enjoyed great success on the R&B chart but never crossed over to the pop side. One of my favorites, and they're rarely discussed here. | |

Frankie Beverly and Maze were a great group. They featured them on the radio last night (every night at 9:00 they play an hour of one artist). My favorite is "The Look In Your Eyes". Andy is a four letter word. | |

I love that one "The Look In Your Eyes" is my favorite song by them!!! I can't believe you guys are mentioning that song.It's one of their songs that hardly ever gets mentioned,or played.My mother had the 45 back in 1980 and it's always been my favorite. | |

Yeah,I think he discovered them in the mid-70s and helped them secure a record deal.In 1989,they recorded a tribute song to him "Silky Soul". | |

From their allmusic entry: Feeling out of place in his home town, Beverly moved Raw Soul to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1971. Raw Soul had been playing the San Francisco/Oakland scene for several years when Beverly's idol, Marvin Gaye, became aware of the band. Quite impressed by Beverly's singing and songwriting, Gaye sang Raw Soul's praises to Capitol and helped them land a deal with that major label in 1976. One thing Gaye didn't like about Beverly's band was the name Raw Soul. The late soul giant insisted on a name change and after considering a few other names (including Karma and Charisma), Raw Soul officially became Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly in 1976. | |
