why does radio continue to play the wrong songs??

looking over the most played songs on top 40 radio and then looking at what people are buying on Itunes makes ya see how clueless radio programmers are

for example

Fall Out Boys single This aint a scene its an arms race haa been the #1 song sales wise for 2 weeks now yet is only the 17th most played song on the top 40 chart

while Bow Wow's Shortie like mine has been in the top 20 radio airplay list for awhile now and is only at #50 in sales (memo to radio....hip hop is OVER mainstream wise)

in sales KT Tunstall sits at #9 with suddenly i see in sales yet isnt getting any top 40 radio play

on the radio Diddy's single Tell Me is 30th in top 40 radio aiplay and moving up while its fallin to #94 in sales!

i could go on and on

it seems now more than ever radio has NO IDEA what people like and are buying and its even worse on the top 40 Rhythmic chart..they shouldnt even count radio airplay into the billboard hot singles charts anymore cuz it gives a false representation of what people like and are buying

You got the wrong radio....It's all about Sirius for me! I won't even listen to the Top 40 Detroit's Clear Channel station offers! There is so much vareity and you're bound to find what you like. While the one Top 40 station might not play KT Tunsall, I believe she does get play and the "ninties and now" station The Pulse.

I gave up on radio about 20+ years ago. Just the fact that dj's dont play the song they want, like a Bside or an album cut is that exact reason i havent turned a radio on in god knows how long. Sirius is a plus for variety but theres still too much division within and they still are playing what they want you to hear. Theres just too many stages at this point and not enough mixing going on. At this point i wish it was like it was in the 80's becuase Airplay almost had no weight, since there were commercially available singles, sales were weighed heavier. iTunes doesnt cut it as far as singles sales, the % that is bought is so small it still amazes me that they killed off commercial singles. I think now airplay counts at a ratio of 80-20 maybe even higher than that. And the problem is that Viacon owns everything, programs everything so of course a chart will reflect their product.

I remember hearing about that music on cable a while back and I'm shocked it's still around. That's cool to hear. I do love my Sirius. I don't even have decent cable, which would cost a small fortune and even if they were the same price, I'd still keep my Sirius.

Exactly. And you have to wonder why they'd want "Fergalicious" to be a hit.

At least iTune hasn't become a victim of payola like FM Radio.

And don't forget about XM Radio Online. It's still only $6.00 (USA) a month.

Also, there is Pardora Internet Radio. It's free.

I've tried XM for a three day trail and I can't get into it. Their older stations (which is mostly what I listen to while flipping through the ones with newer music) feature music that is so obscure and hard to get into.
