There is no edgy arabic music these days, if u listen closely it is a western beat with maybe a tabla over it 2 give the imprwession of it suddenly fitting in2 the arab mould.

There are bad ones, that's a given.

but there's also those who always keep takin Arabic music 2 another level, such as my faves, Samira Said & Angham.

They do use western beats at times but the pure oriental soul is ALWAYS what shines through above all those beats, givin' such an incredible mixture

Today's new generation (the goods & the bads) are mostly inspired by them and often try 2 copy them, that's in Egyptian & Lebanese music.

In Khaleeji though, most artists are still holding on tightly to essences of Khaleeji music which is great.

I enjoy such diversity 'cause one mood'll definitely bore the hell outta me

Cheb Khalid has ALOT of variety in his music, but sometimes he trys SO hard to be "western" so do MANY Arab singers, which is a turn off to me.

That's why Samira & Angham are reliable to me,,

They were adapted by the very old school geniuses, Samira was uder Baleegh Hamdi's wing, and Angham under her father Mohammad Ali Solaiman's wing, and they both exposed those then young talents to other old schoolers

those 2 girls were launched and handed down 2 us by real musicians, not capitalism (like what's been happening in the last 16 years).

There's a singer though, Sherine Abdul Wahab (Ah Ya Lail), who's like a sponge when it comes 2 old school music (which you can tell from her live sessions), she's very cultured on it but if only she pours that into her own music.
