most of Mary's BETTER body of work is unreleased.

What do you mean by that?

I mean, my fave songs from her are the ones in the vault. They've been circulated in boots and mixtapes for years.

The MOST intersting stuff that she recorded are the ones between 1997 and 2000.

I'm workin' on a 2 disc version. wink

Here's my version. I'm listening to it now. I tried to stick to singles. Mary is a fantastic remix artist, so I tried to throw a lot of the popular ones into the mix. I'm basically ignoring What's the 411? in favor of the remixes, because people should have that album anyway.

Reminisce: The Very Best of Mary J. Blige
Disc 1: The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul [time: 79:07]

1. You Remind Me (Remix) [feat. Greg Nice of Nice & Smooth]
2. Real Love (Remix) [feat. the Notorious B.I.G.]
3. Reminisce (Remix) [feat. C.L. Smooth]
4. I Don't Want to Do Anything [feat. K-Ci Hailey of Jodeci]
5. Love No Limit (Remix)
6. You Don't Have to Worry (Remix) [feat. Craig Mack]
7. Be Happy (Bad Boy Butter Mix) [feat. Keith Murray]
8. I'm Goin' Down (Remix) [feat. Mr. Cheeks of Lost Boyz]
9. You Bring Me Joy
10. I Love You
11. I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By (Puff Daddy Mix) [with Method Man]
12. Everyday It Rains (from "The Show") [I'd gladly replace this with an edit of the "My Love" remix that features Heavy D.; it's too long at 7:13]
13. Not Gon' Cry (from "Waiting to Exhale")
14. Love Is All We Need [feat. Nas]
15. I Can Love You [feat. Lil' Kim]
16. Everything (So So Def Remix)
17. Seven Days

Disc 2: Soul Lady [time: 79:36]
1. As [with George Michael]
2. All That I Can Say
3. Deep Inside
4. Your Child
5. Give Me You
6. Family Affair
7. No More Drama
8. Dance for Me (Remix)
9. Rainy Dayz [feat. Ja Rule]
10. Love @ 1st Sight [feat. Method Man]
11. Ooh!
12. Not Today [feat. Eve]
13. Be Without You
14. One [feat. U2]
15. Enough Cryin'
16. Take Me As I Am
17. My Life '06

I figured "I Don't Want to Do Anything" was more important than the cover of "Sweet Thing" in the grand scheme of things. I couldn't fit the "I Love You" remix on there, but it really needs to be. I struggled with a title for the second disc (So Lady, the Queen Becomes a Woman, Lady in Waiting, etc.).

I was thinking of making a double disc collection of most if not all of her collabos too. I think they'd work well together as a set.

Record of the year choices:

James Blunt-"You're Beautiful"
Dixie Chicks-"Not Ready To Make Nice"
Mary J. Blige-"Be Without You"
Gnarls Barkley-"Crazy"
Corrine Bailey Rae-"Put Your Records On"

These are all great songs...

James Blunt makes my ears bleed. I'd be happy with a Gnarls win, but I'm backing Mary.

I feel that way about the video lol

A Gnarls win would be nice here.
I'm behind Mary on this one too.

i always consider her debut album, What's The 411 to be her most revolutionary album, but My Life is her best record, IMO. It's an album that will never be matched with any other modern R&B album. Oh did I forget to mention that her first 2 albums were produced by Diddy?

I use to think "whats the 411?" was the shit when I was younger, i actually purchased the remix album by accident and thought that was the orginal album for a few years ( i was so naive). But even though I know that "my life" is a better album "whats the 411?" takes me back...

i kinda lost interest after the "mary" album but i will always have a huge amount of respect for her and i thought "be without you" was her best single in years.

The Mary album was and still is her most mature and accomplished record. When I first heard this back in '99, I was surprised at the production because it had more of an old-school, vintage sound that any of her albums and there really was just one joint that was straight hip-hop. I was also surprised at the varied collaborators she worked with on this album like Elton John. Her voice even sounded quite different too and everybody (including me) was wondering if she had gotten some vocal lessons or something of that nature. And another thing i loved about it was the fact that more live instruments were used instead of the recycled samples. This was a turning point in her career, in some kinda way. It's still my favorite album Mary has recorded and one of the best and unified records she's recorded too!
