I love shuffle because I love not knowing what's going to be played next. It reminds me of listening to the radio when it used to be good. Andy is a four letter word.

Shuffle is the BUSINESS.
I make Smart Playlists such as an all "Electronic" shuffle, "00's Jukebox" with songs from 2000 to now, "Independent" with nothing but just indie/obscure stuff, "Summer" shuffle, "_Run_Mix_", etc. It's basically self-programmed radio with no annoying disc jocks or advertisements.

The day I got an iPod 6 years ago was the day I said goodbye to radio. Like Mara, I make a lot of playlists of songs that would sound good shuffled together. As far as shuffle vs. album, it depends on my mood. I've been in an album phase lately, but I think that's subsiding. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

sextonseven said: the home made comps I play have had lots of thought (I'm talking weeks) put into what the specific order of the songs should be--taking into account instruments, melody, beats per minute, and overall style of the aritsts. Only after all those are factored into the mix, can I make a final playlist. Songs shouldn't be allowed to roam willy-nilly amongst each other with the press of a shuffle button. No wonder the earth is in such sad shape today.
Sometimes I play your comps in shuffle mode.

Just make different playlists and shuffle those. You could also just designate which songs you don't want to include in shuffle. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Just make different playlists and shuffle those. You could also just designate which songs you don't want to include in shuffle. that's what i do. i have a gym playlist that's all upbeat dancey stuff, and a mellow playlist for when i just want stuff i can read to, and various other lists for different moods. i just put it on regular generic shuffle when i'm at work because i'm so bored i'm pretty much up for anything.

But to be honest, I become complacent listening to songs in the same order. If I mix them up, I hear different things in them and they strike me a different way.

Music is meant to be heard and appreciated--not used as some kind of background noise to cover up silence. Unless it's muzak.
