It's hard to say anything MJ has done is underrated. If anything, he fails to live up to his own lofty expectations and much like his contemporaries, is a shell of his once dominant former self.

So if Thriller didn't become the biggest selling album of all time and no "King of Pop" title, there wouldn't be so much pressure on Michael?

No, i think it was judged fairly and sold pretty well for a half assed effort.

Half assed? Michael put more time and effort into creating this masterpiece, then he ever did on anything else.

That's what killed it, more time more producers no more soul in the music. Invincible is a bad album!! it just won't float.. sorry

An album that sells around 10 million copies is clearly not the most underrated album in pop history. Yeah, sure the reviews were mediocre and a big portion of those sales were from the bargain bins, but still.

Consider this, Todd Rundgren's second album "The Ballad Of Todd Rundgen" sold 15,000 copies when it first came out. I don't think David Bowie's pop masterpiece "Hunky Dory" sold even 10,000 before dropping off the UK charts when it was first released.

Lowering the pitch of the vocals does not make any song "underground" or "not mainstream", neither does an a cappella intro or the use of strings.

the fact that thriller took less than 6 months to record kills the credibility of more time spent on an album meaning it's better.

janet said in interviews that damita jo and 20 yo took her the longest to record from any of her albums and look how those turned out. Longer is not always better.

I noticed a few tracks off this album worth listening more than once.. but thats it.. that is something his fans will "get"...

by no means something to compare by standards.. it sounded format anyway...
