Worst 80's Song

Which song (released between the years 1980-1989) is, in your opinion, the worst song ever? The song that makes you quickly change the station as soon as it comes on or makes you want to gag?

My vote for the worst song of the 80's would have to be the Toni Basil song, "Mickey". I know some of you might disagree with me, but I personally don't like this song at all, it gets on my last nerve and is one song that I just cannot listen to for even one minute without feeling like I want to scream - lol! Feel free to post your vote here.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Yeah, I totally agree on that song. And also any song by culture club (a boy who is confused what sex he is and overdoes the make up). And any song by the Sex Pistols.

The Sex Pistols released one album in their existence in 1977, and disbanded.

I liked 'Mickey'. I used to play it on the record player, and I was probably like 7 or 8 years old. I used to dance around my living room and sing along. Maybe it's because it sounds like a kid's song why some don't like it, but I think it's kinda cute.

And now, I like any song that takes me back to 'those were the days', so I'd still listen to it! smile

I think one of the worst 80's song maybe, I think many might disagree, is 'She drives me crazy' by Fine young Cannibals, or is it that they invented a new way of singing? It wasn't so much the lyrics and the song that made it bad, but it was his voice and how he sang it so horribly at an awards show. And as a young girl, I never forgot that...

Hard to pick from I liked majority of the songs from this decade. I would for sure turn the channel if me heard Mickey smile.

Easy!
"Flickorna på TV 2", a song by a group called "Gyllene Tider". Per Gessle was the frontman before his Roxette-days.

David, i agree with alot of what u write, but
DAMN, u don't like Axl??
I think his voice is original, and perfect 4
Rock n Roll. One of my favorite bands of all time.
They were far edgier than most bands will ever B.
Someone else mentioned Culture Club. Another one
of my favorite singers, Boy George had SOUL.

Worst song? hmmm, anything by Huey Lewis & News.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Hell no. Without "Mickey," Run DMC would have never made "It's Tricky," and what kind of a world would we be living in then, I ask you?!

Other 80s songs that really suck...

***"Turning Japanese" The Vapors (1980)---No comment smile

***"Rhythm Of The Night" DeBarge(1985)---Don't get me wrong,I love DeBarge. But this insipid,lite-reggae,Top 40 nonsense song is truly the worst thing they ever did! This is one group that should have stuck to ballads!!

***"Dancing On The Ceiling" Lionel Ritchie (1986)---I love Lionel but come on! This song is a ludicrous, meaningless piece of bullcrap that he would have NEVER recorded in his funky Commodores days.

***"Rumors" Timex Social Club (1986)---How the hell are you gonna do a song about rumors being spread about you when YOU'RE NOT EVEN FAMOUS YET? Wrong choice for a debut single!

***"Right Here Waiting" Richard Marx (1989)---For some inexplicable reason, our very own Sheila E. did a remake of this snoozefest song on her last CD!! Wtf??

I have 2, which I

ABSOLUTELY HATE:

"pass the doochie" by musical youth
&
"electric avenue" by eddie grant

THOSE 2 SONGS MAKE ME VIOLENTLY ANGRY &/OR EXTREMELY NAUSEOUS, depending on what time zone I'm in...

between the above 2 songs..
the 1 I

HATE

the most, would have to be..

electric avenue

I HATE THAT SONG!!!
ARRRGGGHHH!!!

I would almost prefer to go DEAF
than EVER hear that song again!

I somehow missed the last few comments in this thread, so I decided to "add in" a little more-

I also HATED with a passion:

"dancing on the ceiling" by Lionel "TOTALLY crossed over & sold out" Richie..
even he admitted he can't dance..
so WHY THE HELL DO A VIDEO ABOUT SOMETHING YOU CAN'T ACTUALLY DO???
Pure pop CRAP.

ditto "we built this city on rock & roll"
Jefferson Airplane/Starship at its WORST..
didn't they like break up after this album??

"rumors" by Timex Social Club, was annoying, but I didn't hate it as much as the others..

I also HATED "wake me up before you go-go" by Wham..
I remember almost getting into a fistfight-
with a GIRL, no less-
over that damned song!
Thank goodness Wham 'evolved' from THAT garbage ("Careless Whisper", "Everything She Wants")

then, as for the song that inspired this thread,
"Mickey"..
that song was alright.. catchy.. harmless enough...
Toni Basil was cute in the video, & the
firm, well-toned,
m e a t y
thighs on those cheerleaders..

"oh lawd!"

that was worth putting up with the schoolyard lyrics, right there!
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Let's see...Definitely "Turning Japanese" ~ I hated the song back then and even more now. I don't know what the supposed meaning is behind it, but it was stupid.

867-5309 (Jenny)- Tommy Tutone

I have to agree with "We Built This City." It's a pretty cheezy song even though it's about the city in which I live.

"Cry" ~ Goldley and Creme...the video used to scare me. haha!

I'm sure there are others, maybe if I hear them later I'll post some more.
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Good God but there were so many of them...

anything by the following "acts"

expose - point of no return
nu shoes - point of no return - exactly...
tapu
johhny hates jazz (yeah because it takes talent to play jazz)
all the hair bands
poison
warrant
striper
quiet riot
white lion
(though I must admit I know most of the cheesier ones...remember "she's my cherry pie...forgot who sings
that though)

but the one song that makes my stomach turn is
fucking "Mickey"
rainbow
