They/Roddie Frame were occasionally great. Oblivious is superb, as is most of the "Love" album (despite sounding dated).

Not the first album, though? I think the debut is his best by far, though I like Stray and Love. Love's sound is absolutely atrocious - a good batch of songs undermined by one of the most plastic, glossy productions to come out of a decade that was lousy with them.
