i recently become infatuated with this genre of electronica. i've just began scratching the surface and was wondering if anyone here could help me dig deeper with some choice recommendations?

I must admit I've never heard of Dubstep. If you're interested in exploring subgenres of electronic music though, this is an amazing website to start:

It all sounds like it was made by the same artist to me. Same damn synth patches and drum samples on every song. A nice way to butcher dub/hip-hop though, reminds a lot what EBM did to Industrial back in the day. The vocal stylings are completely ignoring the sounds used on the background and at the end you really don't know whether to like it or loathe it.

It's not that I don't like the sound, I just see this thing essentially as something that will soon transform into a maligned subgenre of dub etc. I mean it always seems to happen in the electronic subgenres after a while, though I might be of course wrong. What I however find fascinating about is the aforementioned negligence of "roots" values and matching up elements that don't go together that seamlessly. That has always interested me, a friction of aesthetics.

i'm a big fan of dubbed reggae and some of this stuff doesn't sound too far off from or what Mad Professor was trying to do with Lee Perry in the mid 90's, just more evolved or should i say more current. i agree that some of the sounds are a bit hacked, but it seems like this would be a nice canvas and new direction for hip-hop. though, i'm sure, unfortunately, this sound will/has only revolutionize hip-hop/grime in the UK.

oh and what does the acronym EBM mean?
