Give it up for Patrice Rushen. I never really paid much attention to Patrice back in the day. I had a few of her 45s such as "Forget Me Nots" and "Get Off (You Fascinate Me)". In recent years, I bought the album "Straight From The Heart" and fell in love with the jams "I Was Tired Of Being Alone" and "All We Need" which I had totally forgotten about until I heard them again. I also had a copy of the jam "Haven't You Heard" that a friend made for me. After seeing her on "Soul Train" a few weeks ago doing a jam I had totally forgotten "Never Gonna Give You Up", I see I've got to buy me some more Patrice Rushen.

Give it up for Babyfingers! You've been blowing hot air and shooting your mouth about "funk needs this" and "funk needs that" and you haven't checked 'Trice out till recently? You got some damn nerve, Miss Andrea It makes no sense though, when we hear the RnB/Funk Trice without the "Jazz fusion" 'Trice from the Prestige/Fantasy records days. You haven't got a taste of Miss Rushen untill you hear this... Nuff said P.S. Good start on the "str8 from the heart" btw.

"Remind Me" is my absolute favorite post-Prestige cut...everyone and their Mom sampled that shit in the 90s, my favorite "Remind Me" sample being "Grand Groove" by Intelligent Hoodlum..."Straight From the Heart" is easily my favorite LP - I do own four copies of it. My favorite Prestige LP is "Shout It Out". Very good stuff.
Does anyone else want to strangle Kirk Franklin for absolutely butchering "Haven't You Heard" with that wretched song of his? My God, I will be someplace and the first 30 to 40 seconds of that song comes on the radio and I will say to myself "Hallelujah! Somebody in radioland has still got the balls to play real music!" and then my buzz is quickly killed dead the very milli-second that cat's annoying-ass voice comes on. The whole song but particularly the string arrangements are BELOVED by me. I mean, damn. Why did he have to go THERE?

It makes me mad as hell when these sampled songs start just like the original. I think Janet Jackson has one also that starts that way with Evelyn King's "I'm In Love". I will be in the car and hear a song come on and turn the volume up, only to turn it back down and change the station once I see it's not the song I was expecting. Andy is a four letter word.

I know what you mean I hate what Kirk Franklin did to Patrice's song.I wish these guys would leave the Old School classics alone! They totally butcher these songs.

Vainandy may not like to hear this, but my favorite Patrice Rushen song is the mid-tempo "Feels So Real." It was in the vein of The S.O.S. Band's percussion-based stuff in the 1980s. THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!
